How to determine stock ECU map version (and datalogging)
 

So, long story short, I took my car into the dealer to have them look at what I believed to be the throttle-tip in detonation issue. They claimed they couldn't reproduce it and said there are no updates for my ECU... So... since I can't seem to get Subaru to look into this, is there any way for me to:

A) Determine which version of the stock programming is on my ECU and compare that to a known list of updates?
B) Datalog the stock ECU over OBD to see if the ECU itself is detecting the detonation, or if I'm just hearing something else.

Most of the datalogging threads on here seem to relate to datalogging with the OFT or Ecutek... I understand I could solve most of this by just buying an OFT and flashing an appropriate tune for my car. However, I would prefer to have some concrete data to bring to the dealer. I have a bluetooth OBDII reader as well as a USB VAG-COM/VCDS cable from back when I owned my Jetta (it can read general OBDII as well).

Any suggestions?

Not sure which phone/tablet you have, but the "Torque" app (Android) will work with an ELM327 style OBDII bluetooth adapter.

This will most likely give you your ECU ROM Calibration ID.

It will also record a number of common values, but I am a little unsure if it will give you knock values. I doubt it will give you coarse correction (i.e. IAM or Knock Correction values), but may give you fine correction (FLKC) to highlight any knock.

All the service bulletins contain VIN ranges. You should be able to use that to see if you're affected.

I have an android phone and android headunit in the car as well as a pro license for Torque. I hadn't noticed Torque reporting the calibration ID but I'll dig deeper when I get home.
Is there any way to configure torque to log/display the knock sensor info? When I last went through all of the available data channels I couldn't find anything that worked for knock.

As for a service bulletin, as far as I can tell neither Toyota/Scion nor Subaru in North America have issued a TSB for this detonation issue. The only TSB I've been able to find is issued by Toyota of South Africa. OFT claims all of their tunes incorporate the fix but I'm really trying to stay stock to preserve my warranty, at least for a while.

Tactrix or OFT will let you datalog and flash stock rom before going to the dealer.
The differences are:
- OFT is 3x the cost
- Tactrix can log more channels but will require more homework for MY15/MY16/etc
- OFT can display some data in real-time while logging which can help you MUCH faster replicate the situation you're targeting.

on my version of torque the ecu calid is shown under the "Adapter Status"


you can use toyota techstream to log any rom calid, the update rate can be a bit slow though but it will log knock parameters
