What should i do with my chirping engine?

So after so many miles, my engine just started chirping... It's VERY annoying and it has me pretty frustrated. engine is sitting on 89,113 miles. Based on what i've read online, it's an unfixable problem. Should i swap my engine for the same one? or should i swap for a 2jzGTE? i would definitely appreciate any advice that will help me with this!

YIKES! ...... 89,113 miles and you are just now posting to the forum ....... how on earth have you managed ........ :eyebulge:

So, the "crickets" found your engine ....... hmmmm took them long enough ..... ;)

Have you changed your source/grade of gasoline lately ...... if so, I suggest you change back.

Some folks put some sort of snake oil in their gas ...... with mixed results.

Some folks have their fuel pump changed out ....... but the new one usually gets infested.

My suggestion is that you just drive the car ....... there is really nothing wrong with it.

I put in 93. although couple weeks ago i was running out of gas and the only thing close to me was a REALLY sketchy gas station that didn't even had the gas types marked (but i needed it bad) so i fueled the car and a few weeks later, my engine sounds like it has baby chicks or crickets under the hood x'D Also, i don't have alot of mods on it either. Only have a set of Perrin pulleys and short ram sp series injen intake.

You will get used to the sound... just like how your snores will never wake you up

So the cricket noise isn't actually an engine issue, and is caused by your high pressure fuel pump. The noise is form the pump actually sticking for a quick second and is normally caused from the percentage of ethanol in gasoline that is found at pumps.

I've always questioned that it was the ethanol that caused this and not something else in the gasoline. It is purely anecdotal but my crickets come back in the winter when I switch back to pump gas but as soon as summer rolls around and I have a tank or two of e85 in there they disappear until winter again :iono:

Well now, lesson learned there ..... right .. ?? When you get stuck in a location that has only one gas pump and the ol boy only takes cash, just get a couple dollars worth and quickly find a real gas station.

Meanwhile, I suggest you hang on for another tank or two to see if the crickets go away. If they don't, just join the 50% (I just made that up) of the FR-S owners that just live with it........;)

I agree but that's what the other threads said... When I switched back from E85 to 91 I had crickets BAD and I'm not getting them while running strictly E85..

well the crickets isn't exactly a cause in order to engine swap. If you want to engine swap do it because you want something different. Who knows, if your new engine uses the same oem fuel pump then you might have crickets still!
