Difflow Diffuser

So, a long, long time ago, in this very galaxy, I saw this diffuser on an FR-S, one of the first ones to be showcased at SEMA.

After some research, found out it's not a custom diffuser... but made by Difflow.

The one above is made to fit Lotus Elise's. They make products for the ZN6/ZC6 as well, similar to Driveway Labs / Velox, but that's not what I was going for.

There's a bigger version available for the Elise... So that got me thinking.

From what I understand, to increase downforce, you can add a big ol' wing to add drag (decreasing speed of air on top of vehicle) or you can speed up the air underneath the car for the same effect.

I still have to raise the back of the diffuser up about 1", so it's not angled slightly down towards the back of the car. This involves cutting the bottom of the rear body panel. I'll do that next week.

It WORKS, though you have to be at speed ;) .

There is no rear end hop anymore going over bumps. The car is GLUED to the pavement. Now the car feels like it CARVES a turn instead of drifting side to side (again, at speed. we're talking triple digits in Mexico).

There is just so much more grip available in the back, and this balances out all the aero in the front.

Very, VERY happy with the results. And it don't look to bad either :)

It looks really tucked up there. Any more pictures from under the car?

Also the Products they sell for the Twins are Drivewaylabs Diffusers.

Looks pretty good and I applaud you for doing something different!

Don't mind my exhaust, was one of my first mods 3 years ago, lol... Greddy RS on order.

Just a friendly tip. Moving the Front of the diffuser down even with the bottom of the Subframe should make it work better. You also really want the exhaust to go above the diffuser. Pretty much making the diffuser pointless with the exhaust disrupting the air you are trying to smooth out.

I also don't get the hard angle change vs a slow radius.

Seems as though that would cause flow separation reducing the effectiveness of the diffuser.

i looked into Difflow exige diffuser awhile back also (they've been around for a bit). as legit as their diffusers are, when custom fabbing the exige part to fit our frs/brz, i feel like that is more of a show piece than functional piece... especially if you're mounting it above the exhaust.

i have the driveway labs diffuser (which is exactly what difflow sells for the twins anyway) and it's awesome and functional. it tucks right under the muffler and piping and level with the bottom of the car. and you can notice the effects even at legal hwy speeds. just cruising at 60mph on a sweeping turn on a fwy, the rear end is planted to the road. stability increases even more when driving even faster (in mexico).

I know the feeling. Sadly, nothing I can do about the exhaust location, and I rather like it up top :)

As for functionality, I too went to Mexico last night. It works. I will bet my car. I hit about 115, and my God... at those speeds, you usually "sway" over when you take a turn.

Now I carve turns no problem. Rear end is planted, NO hops at all going over bumps on the highway. Car feels tight all around. I do have front aero as well, so that helps. But before this, car was pretty sloppy at high speeds, with front planted, and rear just hanging on.

I can't believe how much a difference it made.

I do appreciate your input!

Or just get creative and make a blown diffuser like the ones that got banned from F1 ;)

And a special tune to take care of the throttle affecting the aero... :D

Why not....ECUTEK let's you have multiple maps....or take what @VitViper was showing with motec but dial in some valve overlap and fuel on the exhaust stroke based on yaw rate.

Totally understand what you and Dustin are saying.

Essentially, I'd have to relocate my exhaust if I mounted it lower on the subframe, (almost level with the bottom of the control arms). That, or cut the diffuser, which I'm not willing to do or it'd all go to waste :p .

I can't sacrifice trunk space or cut any holes in the chassis as its my daily, and I love cruising in it with the fam, so it's got to be somewhat muffled/civilized/usable.

But, my number one excuse is I'm broke AF (well, used up my car parts budget) and this is last mod of the year :bonk:

It works great, I wish I was at Lime Rock this Saturday for the time attack event, but I'm helping my sister move to New Jersey.

Damn you, dirty Jersey.
