Engine tapping sound on deceleration
 

Hi All,

There's a tapping sound coming from my engine area that only shows up when I'm decelerating in gear from about 2100-1600rpm.

My first thought was that it's an exhaust leak that only happens under a certain engine resonance but my mechanic tightened everything down. The sound is obviously in sync with the RPM so it isn't a rattle.

My question to you guys is if there is any known issue with the 2013 engines. I'm half expecting someone to tell me that it's injectors or valves or something.

The engine otherwise runs well. If I could ignore the sound I wouldn't have a complaint. I'm not yet convinced that it still isn't a tricky exhaust leak.

AVO turbo. No other engine mods.

It's been happening for maybe 200 miles.

I've heard of problems with cams and direct injectors. Does this sound like either of those?

I would suspect the turbo is making those sounds.

You may wish to check in over at the FI section for some opinions.

I hear similar sounds in the same RPM range from time to time.. they seem to come and go.. I am completely stock except for a TRD intake and OFT stage 1 93 tune.

I to have that sound. I never noted them begore till i took off the oem injector covers and installed the lovers. It sounds like valve chatter which is rather common in flat motors. Im also running an innovate supercharger and ither mods.
