How long is your winter tires lasting

Hey guys!

Finally took off my winters...only 2 seasons and I think I might have only 1 season left on them....maybe not even. Ran continental extremes...How long are your winters lasting? I wonder if its me driving it too hard. A lot of highway driving at 130 km/hr, but I feel like that shouldnt be an issue, but every time I get off the highway I can smell some burnt rubber. Doesnt happen with summers...thoughts?

cheers,

First things first, have you eliminated all the easier items that could affect your tire wear? Things like tire pressure, alignment, etc.? Next is the driving you do, like whether you simply drive long distances if you do that unfortunately will affect the longevity. The aggressive driving can indeed contribute to increased wear particularly when the weather gets warmer since these are softer tires. Where you can unintentionally affect the longevity is where the tires are stored, if they're stored in a place with lots of light and heat...that can affect their lifespan. On the burning smell, its worth checking to see that its not brakes.

IIRC the continental winter extreme is asymmetrical so it shouldn't be an issue with wrong tire placement which is the case for directional tires.

As for my own tires, my Gislaved Nordfrost 100s are holding up very well. I suspect I can still get another 2-3 years worth out of them.

To add to the above, do you drive with them installed when the temperatures start hitting double digits?

3 full seasons and I think I'll replace them this winter

I got 3 winters out of my first set, they probably would've lasted a 4th (especially with this past winter) but at the end of last winter I hit a chunk of metal on the 401 and mangled one of the tires. They were too worn to replace just a single tire, and instead of replacing two tires then and two tires this year I just bought a new set to keep everything the same.

Just took off my winters on the weekend and after three seasons, I put about 12K km on them each winter, three of the tires look good enough for another season.

For some reason one of them, passenger rear, had a lot more wear than the others. I didn't bother checking the pressure when I took them off but that's the probably the reason.

Naa I drove them pretty much only in single digits. I think I just ripp them too hard, but Its still weird that after long highway drives I smell burnt rubber at 130 km/hr. I do run them with the pressure a little higher than 36, like around 38 because it feels better maybe that's a problem too

my Hankooks are champ!!! 4 seasons on my impreza and another 3 seasons on the frs when i sold the impreza....ANDDDD....it still has 50% tread left. I drive 40+ kms to and from work alone. I think the rubber is getting to hard to handle RWD so I might get new tires next season...willing to sell to AWD ppl as it will more than suffice.

I got a set of used Hankook winter pike that had 1 season/±5000km.
And I've done 2 winters of also ±5000km each and they are still at 75-80%.
I expect I might have to change them before I wear them out.

My Continental Extreme WinterContacts have lasted 3 seasons (including the last winter, featuring fairly regular 250km trips between Toronto and London).
I have about 6/32 of tread left, so they're probably good for another season.
I replace them once the weather forecast shows a week or so of temps above 5 C, and rotate them to ensure even(ish) wear.
Also went down a size to 205/55R16, which probably helps as well.

Have 2 season on my X-Ice, expect 2 more looking at them.

I also have the Conti's and I did 3 seasons including this past one. Drove about 50k on them and will replace them before next winter. I may be able to get another season out of them but for peace of mind ill probably just get a new set.

I got 4 on my Toyo's, if we get another easy winter then I can likely JUST squeeze 5 out of them.
