The cracking shounds

Am I the only that is obsessed with the exhaust's cracking sounds? Whenever you lift off in a V8 F-type/ AMGs you get that popping/ cracking sounds which is just strong pornography for me.

At first I thought any aftermarket exhaust on the twins can make it happen but clearly I was wrong, right now I have a borla catback and it only pops when I rev the engine while starting the car. Does anybody have that sound on any other exhaust setup with the twins?

There's a whole thread dedicated to it:

Looks like you'll need an OpenFlash Tablet with a modified tune, as well as a catless header and catless/high-flow front pipe.

People are tuning their cars so they backfire? I don't think that's good.

Well we don't know long term effects of running the tune and cutting timing off throttle I ran the tune edit as well as others and we haven't blown a cat out yet one guy has had it for over 10,000 miles. The only downside would be if you have an actual muffler you can kiss any muffler packing material good buy it'll burn and blow out anything in there making your car much louder

You really minimum just need a catless header or muffler delete, it pops and crackles regardless, however doing it on a stock car risks destroying the muffler. The tune edit is super simple in romraider, I also noticed it completely ruins your gas mileage the more you do it, in fact it becomes so predictable you can modulate it off throttle.

Yes you have to edit the tune, specifically just one table to cut timing in ignition map B, minimum you have to have an Openflash tablet or tactrix cable and know how to edit the rom in romraider.

^That's what it sounds like catless, my car sounded more like popcorn with two cats in my exhaust and essentially no muffler. After a week of using it, it loses novelty

One of my favorite sounds: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfHOU_x5Ovg"]Cosworth Stage 1.2 - Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ Exhaust - YouTube[/ame]

I have a tomei 60s on my BRZ and it just burbles when letting off or downshifting. There is a small pop sometimes when going down or up to 2nd, not very loud. Everything else stock

ryoma 10-11-2016 03:32 AM

your best bet is to remove both the cats in your exhaust system but then it will be pretty loud

guybo 10-11-2016 07:07 AM

I had a muffler delete and never heard pops or bangs or anything. Then I gutted the front pipe cat and loaded a stage 1 OFT tune, and I got a few muffled noises. Once I gutted the header and loaded stage 2, I got a lot more pops and over runs. It's still not like altering the tune like above, and it is not predictable but it happens at odd times. Sometimes I get big loud pops that make people jump  sometimes it's just burbles, other times it's a small pop.

I thought it'd happen on lifting off the throttle pulling hard, but sometimes I'm on steady low throttle and lift off to shift and get pops. The harder I'm pulling the less I seem to get the noises.

Remove the nuts from one side of the header. She oughta pop real good then.

COO86L 10-11-2016 08:48 AM

Sometimes when I shift from first to second after just cruising without going into boost heaps, and then give it a boot it goes BANG!!!! Blastpipe lyfe

Shark_Bait88 10-11-2016 08:58 AM

I don't ever get loud bangs, but I'm not sure I'd want to...

However, my single exit delete will give some burbles, crackles and the occasional pop on downshifts or when lifting off the throttle. Cheapest way to get this effect and still have a decent exhaust note.

Can confirm. Mine does this. It's not excessive, but it happens, and I get glee every time.

I've driven two cars that do this from the factory, Fiat and Mini. Seems like it's almost becoming standard on any 'performance' car being offered these days from Ford to Mercedes.

Here's the Mini with a 'factory' JCW catback, relevant stuff starts at 30s in.
