Pad shims on ap racing / essex caliper
Looking at trying some shims to reduce / eliminate the pad squeal. Has anyone already tried this?
|
What pads? With brand new pads I not sure there is room for shims also lol
My 1521 are silent. |
Shims are very thin. Every decent pad I've tried is hideously loud. Many I've used the same compounds in other calipers and never had anywhere near as much noise as I have with this caliper.
|
I ran the wilwood shims in my AP calipers on the wrx (same caliper body) with DS2500's and it didn't completely eliminate the noise but it did reduce it a decent amount.

I run some titanium shims with the Carbotech 1521 street pads. The shims plus some anti-squeal grease between the shim and the pad makes it nice and quiet. But it does nothing for the XP10 track pads. The grease would just burn off and the sound is the same with or without the shims.

1521 should be 100% silent even without shims.
Properly bedded Project Mu 999 are 100% silent, but bedding them may be a real challenge without going out of your way to specifically do it. |

my HPS pads for street are quiet (thank god)
my DS1.11 for the track are quiet for a day or 2 after track use but then annoying i just got used to swapping problem solved i did use some of the anti squeal grease the first time i put the HPS on and i didn't think twice about it when i went to the track next with the DS1.11...after the first session and back in the pits it was like the front left corner was on fire with the amount of smoke coming off as the grease burned off, drove it around for 10 minutes to give it more cool down time...lesson learned |

I've found no need to swap rotors. The braking takes a couple laps to get on point but after that its fine. Swapping back in street pads I don't find any problems after the track day.
|
Had my Sprint kit wailing like a dying Banshee even after bedding both Hawk HP+ and CL RC6E pads on the track. I'm currently using Carbotech AX6 for street use and it's totally quiet. So I guess there is no dual purpose pads that will stay quiet on the street. Best thing to do is just to swap them for different purpose.

I can play music with my DS2500s a week or two after a track day. Bedded as per instructions. Can deal with it more than I feel like swapping pads. Anything to quieten would help.
