114.3 hubs
 
Hi all,


I want to change my project car over to the bigger beefier bearings, from other Subaru models. I have looked around the 'net and have found various threads regarding doing this. All seem to be 3yrs old or older?


I see Megan do/did supply a set up which gives the 114.3 pcd, but it doesn't look like it gives the bigger bearings?


Can someone please tell me what hubs actually are a straight swap on the rear and what is closes to fit on the front. If I have to buy/make new uprights, fine, but is there anything out there that bolts straight on?


All advice will be gratefully received..


BTW. I need to keep my ABS sensors as I need them for my MoTeC to take care of TC etc.

I'll have to look at the hubs when I get home but I'm fairly sure that the DSS pro-level axle upgrade allows for the 5x114.3 configuration in addition to the 5x100. Take a look into those.

Thanks for the reply. I already have the 600HP DSS shafts as I thought they will do just fine. I am sticking with the little FA20 and have GTX3071, Samsonas box and dry sump for it. I have also deleted the DI.


The kit you mention there retains the stock hub bearing, which is, particularly on the front, not up to much when you start pulling G on wide sticky tyres. I want to upgrade to bigger bearings and that will probably mean going the 114.3 pcd route. There are more BIG wheels available in that pattern anyhow.

Any reason why you wouldn't keep it 5x100 and use a hub adapter? I'm putting 114.3 on my car because I got an unreal deal on new wheels that had that bolt pattern.

Not trying to be an asshole,but why would you want to change the size of the stock hub if it isn't for tires with different bolt patterns? Just curious.

If you actually read the post, you'd have seen he wants to use bigger bearings.

I did read the post,but that's what I don't understand why anyone would want bigger bearings. What's the advantage?

Fact is, on track with big slicks and aero, the stock front set up is wearing quickly, giving pad knock back at best, and potential destruction of the disc and caliper.


I know there are people who will say this is BS, but if this is the case, why are so many Subaru owners uprating, why does the fastest track '86 in the world have uprated bearings and why are there uprights out there for bigger bearings to fit these cars?

So, I finally got sorted.. I have Sti 08+ rear bearings which are a bolt on fit, as long as you can drill the rear disc out.


I have also bought Sti 08+ front hubs and am now considering the options for front uprights. Brypar make billet Aluminium hubs for the FRS/BRZ/86 platform which accept the Sti bearing. I may make my own, either billet or fabricated?


And here's why I will not use conversion spacers or any bolt on spacer for that matter.. especially with sticky rubber on track

I haven't really heard of folks having too many problems with the bearings. Seems like a lot of work for maybe not a lot of gain?

Those Brypar uprights are sweet and have 25mm of correction, but man $2600.

On road cars they aren't an issue but when you put big sticky rubber on them with aero and around 450 - 500hp they soon develop play. I don't want to have to redesign my front end once built, so i'm doing it now.


If you look over on the NASOIC site, there are claims of the 5 x 100 hubs wearing out quicker than the 5 x 114 by a ratio of 20:1!!

You're right. 5x100 bearing is weaker than 5x114.3 bearing... but tbh, having Subie's 5x114.3 doesn't mean it's better, say if you're comparing with Toyota or Nissan 5x114.3 bearings.

If you're worry bout it then, don't go straight swap weak Subie hub bearing, but look into actual racing hub bearing that can handle it.
