Changing Tuning Software -BRZedit to Ecutek

Hey guys,

Looking at changing my tuning software. I want flex fuel and other features only offered through ecutek.

Problem is I have a tune by BRZedit on my ECU. Do I need to flash back to stock?

Or could I use an OFT without flashing back to stock?

Thanks in advance!

Ps. Sorry if this has been covered. Search function doesn't work on my phone

You wont be able to use an oft, as an oft is married to a single car at a time.

You may be able to use tactix\ecuflash to overwrite the brzedit tune with a stock tune.

Im not 100% on how brzedit locks ecu, its almost certian it read locks ecu to tune cannot be read, but it may also change seed keys which means you cannot read or write.

the safest option would be to get whoever used brzedit to tune it to write a stock rom back to ecu

So if the tuner sent me my original Rom, I could flash it back using BRZedit? And then go from there with ecutek?

sorry im not sure how brzedit locking works or even if tuner guy locked tune.

If you have cable you could try flashing stock rom yourself.

otherwise ask the tuner guy.

stock roms are not uniquie they just need to be same calibration id

From trying to read using openecu, I believe it is locked, at least only to brzEdit. The tuner has previously advised he can send me a tune which I'd need a license to write to the ECU. I'm just curious as to if I flash with a stock tune using the brzEdit software, would that release any read/write locks on the ECU and would it be likely that I'd need the original he's removed using brzEdit?

Any help from anyone that knows will be much appreciated.

I have posted up most of the stock roms at the end of the Tactix post linked below.

you will ned to know your calibration id like ZA1JA01G or whatever.

I know brzedit read locks ecu but im not sure if its write locks as well by changing seed keys like ecutek.

If you have a tactrix adapter and ecuflash software (free) then you might as well try and write a stock rom to your car with that. You should be able to read just the rom calid with a scantool or android torque app as this is a standard obd call and does not require read write access to rom.

From my very limited knowledge, that is actually the Calibration ID of my car "ZA1JA01G" which I have downloaded. Tried to write with ecuflash but it gathers some data (Calibration ID, Vin, etc) then fails. I'll have to post up exact logs when I get home from work.

Hmm sound like its locked for write as well.

you can access vin and calid and log ecu parameters even if its locked. Its when you actually want to put eu in program mode to read\write rom that the ecu lock comes into play

I gather the tuner is a fair distance away ?

it looks like its a visit to tuner that flashed it or you need to confirm 100% that he can send you stock brz edit rom that you wwill need to flash with brzedit .

Brz edit is going to cost you about 100 usa dollars for the cheapest licienced version, you need to confirm with tuner guy that this veersion is good enough and you dont neeed the tuner veersion which is much dearer to unlock your car

That was my thought also. All indicators point to it being locked.
I'd happily go and visit or do whatever is needed to return it to stock so I can pursue different tuning options but I haven't heard back from him for a few days. Unsure if he has grown uncooperative.

At this stage I might just wait until he gets back to me or start annoying him by phone soon.

Once you get rid of the locked tune, let me know if you want flexfuel without EcuTek. I've got A01G flex fuel working well using RomRaider/Tactrix and am just up the road from you.

COO86L 02-16-2016 10:07 PM

Sadness.
EcuTek UK have said they are happy to assist in unlocking it for me. May just end up going that way I think.
Thanks heaps for all your help though
