disable the trunk release cancel button

Does anyone know of a way to disable the trunk release cancel button? My backup camera was installed where the keylock was and I am worried something in my trunk might hit the button on accident.

Unplug it :iono:

yep, unplug. super easy, 5 minute job.

edit: any reason why you didn't put it on the other side? that's where i did mine. took some drilling, but there's already a little indentation showing where the camera should go.

unplugging it does not work. As I just had to crawl through my backseats to pop the trunk. I really didn't want to make a hole in the car.

I popped the switch out and unplugged it. Did not work. Is there another way to unplug it?

So unplugging it makes the car think the button is pressed? That's unfortunate... I'm not sure what you can do, then.

I can think of two solutions:
1) move the backup camera
2) the trunk release control button is a toggle switch, I believe. That leads me to suspect that if you could find a way to provide constant power to the circuit in the absence of the toggle (i.e. replace the toggle connection with a constant power connection), it will work. There are wiring diagrams for the twins located somewhere in these forums - I am no electrician so I won't presume to actually be able to give you proper electrical advice. If this is indeed a reasonable suggestion, there are plenty of power wires around the trunk area from which you can splice into. Of course, I would be wary of 5V vs 12V supplies...not sure if that is even an issue in this case.

Tape a bottle lid over it so it can't get hit. This leaves the function should you want it don the road.

and you have an extra bottle cap should you ever need one

If unplugging it doesn't work, you just need to complete the circuit and it will always be working.
FYI there is a key hole in the trunk... :bellyroll:

I was going to suggest replacing it with a toggle switch with a toggle switch guard, but this is better.

Is the lock cylinder on your trunk broken?
