How's the Manual Trans??

1st gen owner, thinking about making the swap. My syncro's started crunching at 13,000 in the 1st car, anybody having problems getting in gear?

The action is smoother, it’s harder to feel the synchros spinning up, I think mostly because they’re spinning up quicker. The shifting action is a bit more effortless and less notchy.

What transmission oil? How often do you change it?
What usage?

Anyone know if the MTech springs from gen 1 work or even considered an improvement for gen2? Not sure if Subaru changed those springs from gen 1

A quick look at the Subaru parts page shows the same springs in the transmission.

The trans is perfect for me. When cold, the shifts are just very slightly more stiff but still very easy. No trouble getting into gear, it's about 35F here on a cold day.

The action is precise and smooth, very easy to shift fast. Every gear is where it should be and it's just stiff enough that you feel confident smashing it but just soft enough that it's not a chore.

If you have to change trannies, would def recommend the swap over first gen. It feels similar to my friends 2018 but just refined and smoother in everyway.

If your crunching at only 13k the car isn't the problem.

New transmission feels great. I'm personally getting used to how soft the clutch pedal is. Less feedback than I remember from my original BRZ. Not bad by any means, just different.

While I understand why you say that, I don't necessarily agree. I, and many other experienced drivers, have had durability issues with these transmissions.

Weird, I had a warranty replacement transmission installed because of it.

It is a bit soft but im not going to complain the clutch in my Z3 is the OEM original clutch from 1998 and I get a leg work out every time I drive it so the softer lighter clutch is a blessing

I guess according to x808drifter the car wasn't the problem

So what was? The transmission?

x808drifter 12-01-2021 04:40 AM

Guess I need to physically type I was mistaken not just thank you guys for correcting me?

I mean shit. Out of all the 30+ twins on my island alone ZERO have had trans problems.
From stock to boosted.

I guess my sample size was too small.
