Rear brake pad size issue
Hello all, I just purchased Hawk DTC-30 front and rear brake pads.
I wanted to compare sizing with oem to make sure I ordered the right parts. My new front pads have the same surface area as stock, but it appears the rear pads are smaller in pad face length (pictures below)? Since the pad is actually the same width it will cover the rear rotor no problem, but I wanted to know if this was normal before I install. First picture is comparing to used stock, second is comparing to used Carbotech. As long as the backing plate is correct it should be okay. I have noticed this on the carbotech's I had too.

I know there are 2 different rotors for the front and this 2 different sized pads, but the rears are the same across all regions afaik. |

So I screwed up and saw last night that the brake pads I have currently in the rear are Hawk Street/Race which are a "street version" of the DTC-30 that I just freaking bought. They are the same compound.
Is it safe to run DTC-30 in the front, and Street/Race in the rear knowing they are the same compound and essentially the same pad? The only the difference is Street/Race has chamfered edges and a backing plate shim. |
