Throw out bearing + clutch questions
2013 frs 120k DD occasional hard driving
stock engine Been hearing whining noise on cold start up, looks like throw out bearing from searching on the forum. Looking at exedy stage 1 clutch kit, turbo/ super charger down the road maybe. Going to replace it myself, hopefully. Getting a list together to do the job. Questions. Do i need to upgrade clutch fork or flywheel or anything else? Is the exedy pressure plate has same amount of pressure as stock? thanks. |
the oem clutch and flywheel is exedy if you have no new flywheel your going to have to get the oem one resurfaced

If the fork and flywheel do not show signs of abuse it's not needed.
As for the flywheel it depends if there is no pitting or grooves and the clutch was not worn the fuck out, you can skip the flywheel resurface. But, if you want to and got the money for it go for it. When my TOB died I only replaced the TOB. flywheel and fork look good for 70k miles. Zero problems daily driving since then. |
Not resurfacing is a quick way to burn 5Kmi off of your brand new disc.
I'm pulling that number out of my ass but you get what I mean from a best-case perspective. Worth it? iono |

The OEM fork is weak and has been known to fail on OEM equipment. Add the increased pressure of a Stage1 pressure plate and that could be bad. Just saying. |

Get one of these: https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/ver...2013-ft86.html and don't forget this as well: https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/vel...2013-ft86.html You already have the transmission out so while you're at it you can do the job properly. If nothing else the difference in feel was worth the price for me and a quick search on these forums shows great reviews for the fork. |
