Dusty fusebox
 

I happened to open the fusebox in the engine bay and found it was little bit dusty. I’ve looked up if there were any other people experiencing the same, but I don’t see many posts mentioning this.

I know it’s not alarming as is, but makes me wonder if I’m missing a rubber seal or something. Given the car is about 6 yrs old, it’s not too bad, but any idea I can clean it safely, preferably without disconnecting the battery? :iono:

I was thinking of a paint brush too since I have one, but just worried about the static electricity it might cause. I'm maybe too cautious?

Would pair nicely with a can of dust-off. No worries about static. There is no dust in the important parts, the connectors underneath each component. After you've dusted it, pull one of the components. Doesn't matter which. You'll see what i mean.

I opened up my box to steal the spare 15amp and was appalled to see the crap in there! I was too shocked to take a picture but let's just say the OP's is spotless compared to what I found. Since I don't believe a fuse block is a great place to build sand castles I am going to see if I can find some thin foam weather-stripping to put between the top and the base. I do not want to even imagine the results if I got any dampness up in with all that sand and dust.

DustOff? To blow everything even deeper into every recess? This is a job for a brush and vacuum cleaner.

Q is right. I wish I had the presence of mind to take a picture but I screwed up and forgot. You really needed to see it to believe it.
The location of the fuse box means that not only was it filled up with dust but also actual sand get's pushed up in there. This may not be an issue for cars that are only summer driven or where they don't sand and salt roads but for many of us the potential of forcing that dust/sand/salt even deeper with Dustoff is just asking for trouble down the road.
I used a shopvac with a brush attachment and that got it cleaned up like new and didn't push everything down under the fuses and relays. I actually pulled a couple to check.

What isn't seen is that the bottom of that box is all open. Nothing magical going on below the surface. Big fat wire bundle with bare terminals clipping into the receptacles. You could blast it with a hose to clean it.

I am more concerned about the crap that was down between the prongs of each fuse and relay.
