how close is too close?
not sue if this should go into the wheel categories or suspension. right now I have Bilstein b 14 coils and a 18x9.5 +35 on a 235/40. because of the progressive spring rates on the Bilstein, at the thickest part of the spring comes about 1/4 inch from the wheel. Is this too close and will I destroy my suspension or wheels?
and how low do these coilers go. lmk if you have any experience with fitment this close. thanks |
235 on 9.5 is a lot of stretch my guy.

1/4" is plenty of clearance imho
I never tried to slam mine, the lower you go the more bump stop you use and the suspension becomes more uncomfortable, iirc I set them around 1"-1.5" lower then stock. |
3mm would be my min static clearance, 1/4" is 6+mm, IMO you're OK.
FWIW 235/40-18 is okeedokee on 18x9.5, it's the max recommended wheel width. Would be a "stretch" on 10".... |

235/40 on 18x9.5 is a bit of a stretch. I run 235/40 on 18x8.

For maximum lateral grip and responsiveness, you would want to be at the wider end of the wheel width range. Personally, I'd run 245/35-18 on 18x9.5", and I'd run 225/40-18 on 18x8. |
my stretch is fine. looking to see if you guys have personally ran something this close. my wheels poke aswell and think camber bets would make my clearance even closer. would camber adjustable top hats solve this ?

All I'm saying is if I'm "guy A", I'd be running 245/35-18s on his 9.5" wheels, and if I'm "guy B" I'd be running 225/40-18 on his 8" wheels. But they're both OK with 235/40-18, although they are slightly larger in diameter vs. stock size, not a biggie... |
