I love Autoguide reviews because they're done at Toronto Motorsports Park. I try to go there a couple times a year.

Haha the Fiesta ST really does look like an "angry jelly bean" in that color. But this review further shows it's a fun car to drive with lots of character. I'd love to test one at the track someday.

Man the BRZ/FR-S really has been compared against everything in these head-to-head reviews, from the classic E30 M3 to the plush ultra-modern mk7 GTI. From cars as cheap as the $20k Fiesta ST to cars as expensive as a $70k Porsche Cayman S.

Everyone seems to love talking about the Twins or sharing their opinions on them. They seem to elicit a lot of commentary/thoughts from enthusiasts and journalists alike.

I honestly thought the Fiesta ST would win given it was wet, FWD and better tires.

Quite happily surprised.

asia_minor 01-29-2014 07:29 PM

uh... so which one won?

BRZ by .3 seconds. Surprising considering the track was a little wet.

Wonder how big the back seats are in a Fiesta ST. Might be a nice DD beater car in a couple years pick up one used.

BRZ. And I agree with the above, the weather conditions most likely favored the Fiesta with the wet track. They were sliding that BRZ all over the place :)

Looked like a blast driving both cars.

Autocar in the UK got their Fiesta ST 2 around a longer track faster than the Toyota GT86 by 0.5 seconds in a 1:53 lap.

These two cars are very close.

The GT86 is reputed to be more softly spring than the BRZ especially in the front.

We didn't see the fast laps. I doubt the drivers were sliding either car on their hot laps.

Well the blond guy (Column Wood) mentioned in the end that he thought the Fiesta would be faster because of the track conditions and seemed surprised the BRZ still won.

But hey, who cares, we are splitting hairs here. Looked like a blast, sign me up for either car around a track for some fun laps.

As for as aesthetics go for me, neither the Focus ST nor the Fiesta ST do anything for me. I realize the BRZ/FR-S is a more expensive car than the Fiesta ST, but they look so much nicer and sporty.

What does that tell you? The only advantage the Fiesta has is torque. Any close analysis clearly indicates the 86 is the better handling car and I would be shocked if anyone said otherwise because that would be insane.

For a tuner it comes down to what do you prefer to mod, power or chassis. As someone who can turn a wrench and do my own math, I prefer to buy my cars based on chassis ability, the rest is easy enough to fix. Though each will still speak to those who prefer to not touch the car at all but for different reasons.

What is interesting at the end looking at the numbers, even though the ST has a slightly better 60-0 braking (114ft versus 116/117ft) the BRZ kills it in braking on the track even w/ Prius tires. Sector 3 also shows the difference in chassis balance between the two. Nice to actually have a review display sector times.

I wished they would of given their opinion on which car they liked driving in better. But I am glad the Brz won the race though.

Thanks for posting. Good to see that driver and track conditions make a difference. I swear EVO has a thing against the GT86. Angry jelly bean....lol.
