Question for those who have replaced the TOB

For those of you who have had the bad TOB from the earlier cars, when you replaced the TOB did you also replace the snout inside the transmission?

If so, do you have a part number for it? I plan on doing my TOB soon and I'd like to buy a spare snout just in-case mine is in bad shape.

Mine wasn't that bad. A bit of 500 grit sandpaper and some red Scott brite made it good as new.

A quick google-fu would get you the part number. It's a bit pricy depends where you get it. About $120-150 is what I seen.

I replaced the tob and the fork, because that can fail too. I also added a lightweight flywheel and a new clutch, but I'm weird.

I have a clutch/flywheel and fork/pivot as well to go in. I'm just wondering about the snout now

Well, better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it.
I'll ask about their return policy just in case you don't need it.

I had my throwout bearing replaced at 62K and had them replace the clutch and flywheel while they were in there. I was told the throwout bearing itself was toast but there wasn't any obvious residual damage anywhere else including the clutch

If it hasn't blown up yet, there is little chance that the snout has been damaged.
Just don't hit it with a hammer before re-assembly.

The bearing retainer is $60:

I was concerned mine might need replacing too, but like @bcj said unless your TOB has melted or exploded, the snout will be fine.

If you do decide to replace it, don't forget the oil seal ring behind it.
