1320 Performance Headers Review

Anyone with the 1320 headers have any reviews on them?

Cmorris8848 12-29-2015 11:00 AM

I have a friend of mine that's running the 1320 in his FRS. He likes to Rev it out and has taken it to the mountains a few times, so he drives it pretty hard. He hasn't had any issues with it. He did use the grimmspeed gaskets for the install as well. I'm looking to get one soon.

tskaohu 12-29-2015 11:37 AM

I just installed my headers on my BRZ and have a problem with the header to overpipe gasket. I put a grimspeed one but it doesn't seem to fit flush and created an exhaust leak. Not sure what to do. Can't get it flush any way I try.

He did say that the overpipe to header is a little weird with the 1320 and suggested getting an aftermarket overpipe when getting the 1320. Let me ask him and see what's up

tskaohu 12-29-2015 11:40 AM

I got the 1320 overpipe and it fits flush but the gasket almost seems too thin because there is a leak. Ask him if he just used one or two please!

He didn't get the 1320 overpipe, but he did only use one gasket between the overpipe and header. You might need to do some fine tuning to make it work. If push comes to shove, then use two and hopefully that would work

Cmorris8848 12-29-2015 11:58 AM

@burrowsc is the one that has it installed

burrowsc 12-29-2015 11:59 AM

I'm the friend with the 1320 header. I installed header, then over pipe, then front pipe in that order.

I made sure the the header/op fit correct before bolting back up the oem front pipe. Idk if when installed with the front pipe on make its harder to line up the over pipe or what, but that's the way I did it and I haven't had any issues yet.

I'm pretty against the Grimmspeed gaskets on any connection on our car as I've had them leak like crazy for no reason... I'd recommend using a Remflex 6005 instead. Requires the holes to be modified slightly to fit, but no leaks.

tskaohu 12-29-2015 12:10 PM

I'm starting to believe that, the groom speed are a perfect fit, yet when I tighten everything down I still have a leak in the gasket will still move in between the flanges

And your tightening down all the way? If so, the gasket should not move between the flanges. You didn't pull the gasket apart did you? I believe it's referred to as a crush gasket, so its many gaskets put together that crush together the more you tighten. I could see where the mistake could be made

No I Took it directly from the bag I received it and put it between the pipes and tightened it up. When I started up the car I still got a slight leak from the pipe. I just used a universal 2.5 gasket from grimspeed

Grimmspeed is almost the same size as oem so idk why it moves freely between flanges after you have tightened everything. This is also how the GS gaskets should look, might want to double check yours or try with an oem gasket.

After that, if it still isnt fixed, its time to check the flanges and make sure they are not warped or anything.

tskaohu 12-29-2015 12:34 PM

yeah thats exactly how they looked. when i put them in and tightened them the little metal plates moved and condensation leaked. almost like the gasket was too thin.

You could try to gaskets or the oem gaskets, or start checking flanges.

That's what I'm thinking, because I started with the shitty gaskets that 1320 gave me and I was just putting on the Grimm speed ones to get a better seal. The shitty ones from 1320 did not have any leak in the beginning and the grim speed ones do. It's making me think that it was the grimspeed gasket.

I haven't heard anything bad about GS gaskets but who knows. 1320 didn't even give me gaskets when I bought mine lol. If the ones from 1320 didn't leak then just put those on. Easy fix.

The GS gaskets have essentially no crush. You'll never get them to seal if the surface isn't machined perfectly flat with absolutely zero misalignment in the flanges, so good luck :)

I just noticed you said in the beginning.. Sorry. I retract my last comment

I would have left the 1320 gaskets but they disintegrated lmao.

UPDATE: I took my car to my buddies exhaust shop, apparently that gasket leak had righted itself because when he listened for a leak there was none. Gotta love self fixing problems 👌🏼

Or maybe you made something wrong without knowing? Post video if you can, you have other aftermarket component on your car beside header?

tskaohu 12-29-2015 01:38 PM

Yes with the GS gaskets on the header to engine block connection and on the header to overpipe connection

I have a full exhaust and a Injen short ram intake plus an OFT for UEL Headers and E85

burrowsc 12-29-2015 01:46 PM

Just for future reference. If you have the jacked up, have a friend start the car and place you hand under where the suspected leak is. You will feel air coming out of the exhaust.

Yeah we noticed it because there was condensation dripping from the connection.

JarradLS 01-25-2016 04:54 PM

plug one of your tail pipes with a rag, blow a shop vac into the other, spray soapy water on joints/gaskets/connections.
this is the only way i found my leaks and proved their existence

Rifle 01-29-2016 05:21 PM

Was in the first production run of these, so I'll lay down my input as I have several times before.

Is it worth the value? Yes.
Would I ever recommend it? No.

I had two of these headers due to leaks, and it was there after the second one - so I moved on. Both of my headers were improperly decked at the driver side bank where it mounts to the block, thus causing a leak. I used both grim speed and oem/crush style gaskets, and nothing fixed it. The issue with it leaking here, in my case, is that it's pre-o2 sensor. What does that mean for me? The car read lean. And what happens when a car leans out? It dumps fuel.

Having a supercharger, this is a huge concern because of the amount of volume I was pushing. It dumped so much fuel that it caused the car to go into limp mode. Had it towed to a buddies house, drained the oil, and sure enough, it was like a 50/50 ratio of oil and gas.

secondly, the flex pipe causes this header to have a rattlesnake esq. sound, and is very obvious once installed. I could even hear it over my Invidia N1.. And you all know how loud that is with a full exhaust.

Found a used Tomei EL for $350, sold the 1320 for $125, and called it a day.

Just my .02.
