is a black car much hotter?
Does a car with black paint make the interior much hotter than white in summer? has anyone owned both colors before?
I'm in CA. |
As long as you don't paint the inside you should be fine...but keep in mind these cars already have a black interior. It was 99F today and I must say that was the first time I didn't have a smile on my face while getting in the BRZ..

All of my cars have been black and I must say that it does get hotter on the inside. Tints help a little bit, but for some reason I feel that black cars retain heat more than other car colors. Especially with a black interior

Black cars' paint gets very hot and the most common color car for clear coat to flake.

Black gets really hot compared to most other colors. Had a black car for the past 8 years and will not buy another one unless it's an awesome deal for the car. Hot lava has faired much better so far.

I can tell you, I have the black FR-S. The car is uber hot. Especially today, here in Montreal it was 40 with the humidity. I wish I had gloves so I could touch the steering wheel.

Not car related but:
I crashed my 08 R6 at a trackday a couple of years ago (it had race glass, crash protection/cases etc on so all good) but busted up my tank. before: http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...speed3/013.jpg As you can see it had a white tank originally. To replace the tank after the crash from a local dealer was around $900 so i bought one off ebay from the US for $200, unfortunately the US never got my paint scheme so I had to make do with a black tank instead. Getting to the point - summers in Perth can hit 40 degrees celsius (104 farenheit). Riding my bike with a white tank was hot but bearable, after swapping to a black tank it gets so hot it burns my inner thighs through kevlar lined jeans. You can be damn sure my next bike will be white or another light colour. I will get an 86 in sonic blue/ultramarine though. |
In general yes. I remember when I lived in Hawaii, white was the most popular color due to the heat. But it shouldn't be a big factor in the relatively cool SF Bay Area, unless you live inland where the summer reach the 100's

I had a discussion a couple weeks ago about this. We wanted to know exactly what temperature difference is found between black and white.
2 identical cars parked in the same area, 1 white, 1 black. Using different cars would skew the test results. I want to know to what actual degree the difference is. |

Very large I can tell you that.
It's simple science. Get Hot Lava |
Hmm so I wonder how much a difference Asphalt makes as opposed to Raven. I wand a dark color anyways lol

living in AZ, I can tell you when its 115F outside and you own a black car that sits in the sun all day, the interior of the car can exceed 180F and getting in is not a fun time.
Now I have a blue car and life is wonderful. Car can still get to ~150F interior temp, but the paint, my tint, and windshield sunscreen device all help quite a bit. |
My work is moving to a new building, that will have open lot parking. I think I will buy a car cover and just use that everyday. Its a pain in the ass, but what ever.
My car is white by the way. |
A remote starter would help, along with ceramic tint.

night rider?
Where you live, drive and ultimately PARK your ride makes a difference. I always try to leave it in the shade and use a visor on the inside. Some places it won't matter anyway! If its hot outside its still hotter than usual inside it. Just remember why you'd get black paint: you want to be chill and look a beast at night.
 |
Does the remote start start up the car with the AC on or just start the car?
