Tint shop messed up my paint.
 

Took my week old FRS to get tinted yesterday.
They messed up my paint.

I washed it the night before. Woke up in the morning and didn't notice anything. Took it in to get tinted and picked it up and as soon as I got home, I saw this white, hazy line in the driver's back fender. I tried to wash it again this morning and it didn't go away.

They also put a few divets in the rubber trim on the roof on both sides.

I'll probably talk to them tomorrow.

Do tint places used any kind of chemical that may have caused this? I noticed there was a lot of dried spray all over my paint. I assumed it was water.

Also, what can I do about the damage? How can I/they/someone get rid of this line? I have pictures but the best way I can explain it is kind of a milky white line with maybe some light milky haze around it.

Also, I'm not sure how to handle the tint place. I mean it's really my word against theirs if they don't take responsibility for it.

I'm not seeing any damage. As far as the weather stripping stuff, many cars come off the lot like that.

The white line to me looks like a light refraction or shadow, but Ill take your word for it as I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice. Have you tried washing the car again?

There is zero work done on the outside of the car for tint and all they use is water when installing it. I don't see what you are talking about either. Doubt they did anything.

I see it. They don't do any "work" on the outside but may have laid the tint against the outside windows to get an outline to cut the tint for inside and inadvertently rubbed against the car.
If you look up close did they scratch into the clear or is the milky sitting on top of the clear? Either way, it can probably be buffed out. You need a real up close picture, preferably in a dark location and then shine a flashlight on the damage. That picture is taken too far back in too bright light.
In the car I had before my FR-S, my girlfriend did a surprise tint on it when it was a couple weeks old. They used heat guns and burnt nice 2" circles into the seat and denied they even used heat guns for tinting after I showed them what they did. Maybe your tinters scratched the paint and used a cutting compound to get the scratch out and that is causing a light refraction like tyrantcf mentioned?
This is why I on my FR-S, I used the inhouse tinter at Toyota so there was no shenanigans of destroying anything and denying it. Hopefully your tinter isn't such an jerkface when you show them.

You don't see that white line halfway between the rear window and the top of the fender going pretty much across the entire top of the fender?

I can see it in the picture but maybe because I know what it looks like in real life.

Anyway, what type of repair would get that out?

That spray is usually soap and water.

Maybe left over overspray they didn't clean up or something? Take a little rubbing compound to it. Doesn't look like the paint was damaged from the picture.

It's most definitely a visible mark, guys. I'll try to get a better picture.

i have a feeling for the fact that you took it home and off there property before noticing this, that they are going to fight it and claim it left there hands perfectly fine

Ahhh now it can be seen and now I can even see it in the pics. Doubt it was a direct result of the tint in that location but somebody may have dragged something across it. Give it a quick clay bar and a dab of polish and I bet it is gone completely. Doesn't look like any real damage to the paint just a light scuff to the surface.

I bought some clay bar actually. Have no idea the best way to use it yet. Everything I've read says wet it with quick detailer then medium pressure rub it back and forth several times. Sound about right?

i would start off with little to no pressure at all,

IMO get some polish instead, wont cause any damange to the paint (I.E. Swirls) like clay bar will, but than again, its a new car so im sure the paint isnt that contaminated

start off with little to no pressure with the clay bar and just make sure the surface is well lubricated, dont use regular water, use a quick detailer or a dessinated clay bar lub

get some instant detailer spray and use that before using a clay bar. clay will give you swirl marks. when all is said and done get your car paint protected with Opticoat Pro.

The only reason I recommend clay bar is in case the mark is a residue of some kind. May wipe off with some polish but will come off for sure with a clay bar if it is a mark made by plastic or something that left a film.

Calmly walk in, state your complaint, and open fire.

Bummer. Heat gun/torch damage? Somehow? Have you tried to apply any type of paste or 'stuff' to get it out?

For anyone taking their car in for repair/check up etc... who gives a sh!t about it (because I know some people dont care because they are rich as hell and others see the twins as worthless), I recommend to always photograph their car in front of whomever they are delivering the keys to. 4 pics can be enough. Even welfare dependent peeps get a free phone nowadays. No excuse. Not that it'll fix any issue that may arise, but it will offer for a basis of argument. :cheers::cheers::cheers:

Take it to a professional detailer. To see if they can correct it. Looks more like a paint defect.

What clay are you using clay should not leave marks if used properly.

Take it to a body shop and have them take a look.

Sometimes WD40 works wonders on residue and shouldn't harm the paint.

I see it, dones't look like a scratch at all, looks like residue of some sort.

Clay bar/Polish should get rid of it. Almost wondering if its just soap/water that somehow got there and left, could leave a milky haze like that depending on what they used.

Just noticed that same mark on the passenger side. Really weird that I have just noticed it for the 1st time and I've had the car for 2yrs.

What color is yours?

WRB and my car is opticoated for 2yrs as well so the mark was there all along....or somehow it just suddenly showed up.:iono:

Siiiiiiiiiiiigh ok I didn't want to admit this but I will because I don't want you stressing out over this.

Mine turned out to be a reflection. YES A REFLECTION.

Somehow the sun hits that part of above the fender where it curves in just right at certain parts of the day and makes it look exactly like in my pictures and video.

If you shield the area from the sun, it won't change the 'mark' at all. No matter where you stand, the mark doesn't change shape or anything.

However, if you put your hand riiiiiiiight against that concave section, you'll block the reflection.

It's the strangest reflection I've ever seen but it's just the sun.

Sorry for all the wasted time guys.
By the way, once I found this out accidentally, not only did I test it by blocking the concave area but I turned my car around and got the same mark on the opposite side. Literally the same shape and length.

Tldr: it was just the sun.

Oh good...that is a strange reflection as it doesn't flow along the fender bulge. It really does looks like a blemish.

I'm not a painter, but I think I mentioned earlier that it could be just a slight defect during the painting process. Could be considered normal since other people have experienced it and the nature on the curved surface. I forget the term, but the metallics in the paint may have cluttered/settled in a fashion that makes the odd line when hit with direct sunlight.

The paint on these cars are pretty low quality as is, my SWP shoes cloudy blotches in the sun and my door handle has a certain dark spot as well.

Pinnacle pre wax body lotion + some collinite 845 should do the trick

Yeah that looks like the same thing. Touch the center of the concave part and it'll disappear. But you have to basically put your finger on the surface where the reflection originates or it won't go away.
