BRZ traction control won't stay off

Just bot a 2015 subaru brz with about 500miles on it now. Still doing engine break in.

I can turn off traction control (not the sport mode button the other button that says off) at low speeds or a dead stop only. Above 20mph it won't turn off. Sometimes it will only turn off for around 8-10seconds and then turn back on other times it will stay off much longer.

Anyone had this experience ?

also might as well mention - have a slight idle issue - Idle seems like its searching sometimes. It holds at 600RPM the vast majority of the time with slight dips to 500RPM and occasional gains to 700 or even as high as 900. Its tough to tell if headlights or Air conditioning is to blame.

Can't help with the trac control but the idle will jump around a fair bit with the air on. Every time the compressor starts or stops your idle will drop or jump. Not an issue and very common on small displacement engines.

That's by design. If you want to turn it off for speeds above 20, you need to hold it down for 3-4 seconds. Then both the 'TRAC OFF' and Swervy Car lights will come on.

1. Are you just pushing the TC or Are you holding both VSC & TC til Sports mode is off?
2. Idle issue happens when? When you start it in the morning or...? Cuz if car isn't fully warmed up, it can cause idle issue AC is blasting.

Icanfaptothis86 07-13-2015 07:18 PM

Yea I live down in Houston TX so its fawkn so hot all the time. Puts the AC thru its paces. I am just scared that I might have that stupid idle issue that plagued the first edition models.

If there is idle issue, you can get it fixed/update the ECU at the dealership

Icanfaptothis86 07-13-2015 07:23 PM

Do you know how long that fix takes to complete ?

Not impossible but really rare.

Icanfaptothis86 07-13-2015 07:29 PM

Do you have to be at a full stop to do this?

ichitaka05 07-13-2015 07:33 PM

Any time car need to do extra work (fans, ac, headlight & so on) extra extra power, that causes idle to drop. When extra stuff is off and even with that idle is still dropping, get it checked... but I wouldn't worry too much.

tyrantcf 07-13-2015 07:34 PM

For TC, you need to hold the button down until vsc and traction is off.

You have 2 options.
1. Follow what manual said.
2. Follow member said.

I did, #3... I did my own break-in. I own '14 Limited w near 15k on it. Never had any engine issue... other than stupid girl rear ended my car

tahdizzle 07-13-2015 07:42 PM

Being super anal about your car, I'm sure you've read the manual cover to cover and this thread was just to get some jollies off right?

Icanfaptothis86 07-13-2015 07:47 PM

Not at all... I just found that since I have testes dangling between my legs I much prefer to drive with traction fully off.

Was going to help, now I'm not, survival of the fittest, enjoy your ride once you finish reading the manual.

(Tip, the only time a TC light goes off is if you've pushed the 'left' 'off' button and did not hold, that is a sort of 'snow mode' that disables above ~25 mph)

Nope. Just hold down the TCS OFF button for 3 seconds at any point in time to turn it off.

chaoskaze 07-13-2015 11:10 PM

Don't worry about it. It will go away, also I noticed that the idle thing happens more easy with 91 then 94 on my car...
