BRZ Limted Door Locks

I noticed that factory config with the keyless entry allows the driver to open their door but does not unlock or allow the passenger to open theirs. Is there a setting to change this? Kind of annoying to have to either pull the key out and use the fob or manually do it as the impatient gf waits lol.

cmspooner 06-19-2012 08:30 AM

There is a dealer setting to change the key fob behavior so that a single press opens both doors. I am planning to try to have the dealer set this option with the hope that it also changes the behavior of the keyless entry. I tried to have the setting changed at purchase, but the dealer looked at me like I had three heads...even after showing him the printed page from the manual.

There's a small "button" on the door handle you can touch to unlock/lock the door. The touch panel on the inside of the handle only works for the first door to be touched (which is kinda silly, it should open both doors if you're close). If you touch the little button (it's a small raised line in the door handle) it will unlock the door.

edit: p.s. touch touch touch touch touch touch

For the limited: Open the driver door with the car off, hold down the lock and panic buttons on the key fob for approx 5 seconds. When you let go the car should beep. Now both doors will unlock when you touch the door handle. Not sure if that works with the premium.

Thought that the keyless entry system was Limited only? Could have read that wrong.

But in any case, thanks a whole mess of gratitude for this (I'm sure I could have found on my own by reading the manual, but hey, why do that if someone else will do it for me right? :D).

Both are keyless. The limited has keyless start and the sensors to open the car without touching the keyfob while the premium just has keyless entry only on the keyfob.

Yes, that's what I meant, I should have been more specific. Hands-free keyless? Hafreekeyless? Hafreaky?

I didn't see this in the manual, it just had it listed as an option settable by the dealer, that is if your dealer has a clue. Is there a list online of how to set the dealer options?

This is awesome. How did you figure it out?

Buggy51 06-25-2012 10:33 PM

Random question, but does the car prevent you from locking the keys inside the car if they are placed in the trunk?

On the limited, the proximity of the keyfob would let you just open the doors, so basically yes

There is an antenna in the trunk and if you try to lock it with a key in the trunk it will beep at you and won't let you. I had it happen when I first got my car, I had both keys with me and wanted to just leave one in the car and lock it, it wouldn't let me so I ended up just carrying them both around.

Buggy51 06-26-2012 12:51 AM

Hmm good to hear. i'd hate to be locked out one day lol

Superhatch 06-26-2012 01:12 AM

The simple solution is to open the door for your gf. If you unlock the pass side first, the drivers side opens as well. ;)

Same as Toyota, had one with a smart key a while back.

I tried it on my premium and it doesn't work. After 2 seconds of holding both buttons, it goes into panic mode.

Isn't this only for keyless entry?

I have similar question, sorry to hijack the thread, but since the original question is resolved.... I would like the car to autolock itself after it starts moving, and also open locks when I turn off the car. Is it possible?

I didn't see this as an option when reading through the manual. I thought this was a pretty standard safety feature on most cars now and was surprised that the BRZ didn't auto lock.

Sorry for bringing up a dead thread, but figured I'd ask here instead of making a new thread about this.

Since I finally got around to doing this, I noticed that when I open the door and hold both the panic and lock buttons for 5 seconds, it'll continue to beep whether I'm still holding it or not after the 5 seconds. It's a long beep followed by a short one. It still changes the settings of the locks (unlock just driver or both), but I was wondering if this is normal. ;)

Shizuma 07-26-2012 10:22 AM

Is there no door unlock button on the limited's key fob? I know on the premium just like most cars with keyless entry the default is one press for drivers door only, 2 presses for all doors so I can just tap unlock twice to unlock for the passenger, I'm not familiar with the buttons on the limited's fob though.

There's an unlock, lock, trunk, and panic buttons on the limited key fob. And yes, hitting unlock button twice does unlock both doors.

I was talking about using the keyless entry on the door handle.

This needs to be made a sticky and added to the FAQ or DIY section.

You just made my car a little bit better.

WRXcellent 08-16-2012 08:46 AM

:thanks: Knew there had to be a way to do this!

I went to the dealership today asking if this was possible....they said no because its a safety feature and there is no way for that to change....went home and read this thread...and now it works... i feel like calling them and telling them that i did it myself and there is a way for it to be done. This place also tells me that the crickets are normal...

thanks!

Don't have the manual in front of me but I think you just hold the unlock button down on the keyfob with the drivers
door open til it chirps.

mrha 09-18-2013 04:06 PM

This has never been a problem for me since my passenger is usually my wife and I open her door anyways.

I was able to grab my manual during my lunch break and read up on it...it says that light is supposed to be flashing to show that the alarm is activated? now im confused haha

Opie 09-18-2013 07:51 PM

My bad, I thought you meant it was flashing while the car was running.

maxeveland 06-02-2014 09:43 AM

So what happens if you lock the door and your passenger isn't aware of the feature and touches the the door handle once this setting is on? Will the car unlock unbeknownst to you?
