Not great with re sizing pictures btw :)

WhiteFRS69 06-01-2015 09:48 PM

highest i ever got was 34

Tcoat 06-01-2015 09:50 PM

34 for me as well.
Did you drive down hill both ways?
I am impressed!

BRZnut 06-01-2015 09:54 PM

One long trips (like 10 hrs at interstate speed of 55-70 mpg) I often hit an average of 44 mpg on the trip computer, using 93 octane gas. This car is like having a hybrid!

pushrod 06-01-2015 09:55 PM

Auto?

Packofcrows 06-01-2015 10:00 PM

Cruise control at 60mph for 200 miles on 101 I got 44mpg. Real value @40 according to fuel calc.

jblmr2 06-01-2015 10:30 PM

So you bought a sports car to get good gas mileage? Maybe you should look at a Chevy Geo. My cousin gets 54 mpg with his.

djsyndrome 06-01-2015 10:34 PM

That thing lies through its teeth. Mine regularly says well over 30mpg, even though I'm actually getting mid-20s.

Disappointing, as on our two Subarus both the temp and MPG gauges have been pretty accurate.

Who said anything about getting a sports car to get good gas mileage?

I'm happy that good gas mileage comes with this car. I was driving an average speed of 82-88mph through parts of the country when driving coast to coast and got 34mpg (through calculation during fuel-ups).

Less than $300 in gas driving from NY to CA. I was very impressed.:party0030:

If i buy a sports car with a 2.0L engine and the fuel mileage is lacking that would be a red flag in this day and age honestly.

ZX88 06-01-2015 11:24 PM

Subaru probably put the wrong engine in it.

Feel good about it after you have confirmed it with actual math (actual miles driven divided by actual fuel used). The car's computer is notoriously inaccurate.

(The mileage is still probably very good, even if you haven't actually hit 40 mpg.)

Choco 06-02-2015 12:50 AM

Highest I had was 25 :(

Kaotic Lazagna 06-02-2015 12:52 AM

Best I got was a calculated 41.37 mpg. 387.7 miles and filled up 9.372 gallons. Next best was 40.46 mpg. My rolling average according to Fuelly is 35.6 mpg. I drive a 6MT btw.

LOL.

I don't understand How you guys contain yourselves, I must have no patience or self control because of my age or something max I've gotten is 21.7 mpg. :respekt:

N1rve 06-02-2015 02:37 AM

I see you 41.8 MPG!

You can put this feature on. I did. There is a nice tutorial on YT.

I mean, if you're just going down the highway, what can you possibly do that burns a bunch of fuel short of braking for no reason? My car did 38mpg at 65mph in cruise control coming back from the dealer, I got more because I press the clutch in when the road is downhill.

I meant that is the way you can tell it's M/T. The A/T would have P/R/N/D, and if it's in "M", it'll have a tiny little M and the gear 1/2/3/4/5/6

Didn't realize you were talking highway mpg

Or you could... I don't know.... read the manual maybe?

To take a pic of the MT gear indicator you would have to be moving and then you risk a cell phone in hand fine (in most places).

I was referring to a fact that this indicator is not only on AT.
I have it on and I like it (even if I dont need it).

You weren't supposed to use the cruise control for the first 1000 miles. That's the only truly critical part of the break-in instructions.

Now the engine will explode. Sorry.

I do to. I was just poking you about having to use YT when how to turn it on is right in the manual.

NOHOME 06-02-2015 10:44 AM

I find that the fun/mile ratio is inverse to the miles/gallon ratio. There might be a squared factor in there also.

But the manual doesn't have videos in it.

Dadhawk 06-02-2015 11:08 AM

Best I've done is a little over 36MPG over about 350 miles but that was with an average speed over 70MPH.

I agree, I get around 25-26 in the BRZ and I could barely get 35 mpg out of a Golf TDI. I have fun as often as I can.

I did and I do.

My previously daily driver was a Nissan Xterra 4X4 (which I still own and is an excellent vehicle). MPG for that vehicle averages 14-17 MPG. By comparison, the MPG of my 6MT FR-S is averaging 32 MPG, and I do a lot of short-distance commuting.

So I'm pretty happy about decision to buy a sports car for the good gas mileage. ;)

Of course, that's just one of the reasons I bought it, but still a major one.

I am able to read only digits 1-6 and R.
I am not even sure I own something like car manual...

You actually got worse gas mileage by doing that. When you let the engine brake the car, the computer cuts off the fuel flow because no fuel is needed to turn the engine. The momentum of the car turns it. When you push in the clutch, the engine goes to idle, which burns fuel to keep the engine turning. Leaving it in gear going downhill therefore uses less fuel.

If you were driving an older car with a carburetor, it would have been the other way around.

lol you guys are funny, I bought a used car with 28k on it -_-

Also, if you calculate fuel burn per unit energy saved by not engine braking, you'll find that coasting downhill is more fuel efficient if you are not slowing down afterward. DCTs these days have an auto-coast function that does that to save fuel. That's why it's called engine braking. Nice try though.
