How often can I reach red line ?
How often do you reach red line ?
|
Only when I'm not payen attention ......:(
humfrz |
When I go into racecar mode.
AKA stoplight racing mini van :) |
Every day I drive it...
|
until it goes BOOM!
and you start to slow down, and there is smoke and oil everywhere..... |
Red line?
Hell, I've reached the rev limiter many times. I don't think it's possible to over rev the engine. |
So it safe to red line from 1st,2nd,3rd or 4th gear once everyday ?
|
I don't always reach the red line, but when I do, crickets come out of the tail pipe!
Its up to you, its your car after all. High loads are not easy on the engine, but it can take some abuse. How many times a day no one knows and no one can tell you exactly, as some engines go pop, some engines keep going. With how slow this car is, sometimes its a required thing to make that needle hit over 7000 to pass that Honda Odyssey! |
6.66 times a day.
|
when I feel like it!
|
I tend to baby all my cars. The only time I come close to red line is when I take an on ramp and I need to reach high way speeds. Other than that there's really no need. But I do take corners pretty hard.
|
Redline it as much as you want. Just don't do it like 50 times a day. I probably do it 20 times.
|
The rev limiter is there for a reason. It's a safety measure. If it wasn't completely safe to go to 7400rpm, they would have set the rev limiter lower ;) So redline that shit!
Thenk again, check your car is running at normal temperatures and check you have oil |
You can hit red line any time you open the throttle enough to do so.

You should redline it at least once each day, to verify that your limiter is working properly!
|
I thought the rev limiter was used as an audible shift indicator. It works for me. Just kidding, the red line is the safe limit, use it.
|
We tuned the car to preserve the engine and increase longevity. Use the redline when you feel
its necessary for win. Good luck |
Surprised no one has mentioned this yet: Only after the engine has reached full operating temperature.
Not the water temp, the OIL. Give it a good 15-20 minutes before dropping the hammer. |

There's an easy way to check your RL counter to see how many you have left. There are three buttons on the dash for odometer and such. Put the car into accessory mode and punch the following sequence as fast as you can: top-middle-middle-top-bottom-top-middle-top-top-top, then pump the hand brake three times. The check engine light will begin flashing yellow, and the RL count will display on the dash in place of the odometer. You have to get the timing just right to make it happen. It may take you several attempts. |
I set my idle to be at redline
If anything comes up, I'll be able to say "The engine blew up at idle, I dont know what happened?!" |

I heard if you do it too much, it makes you go blind.

And it's typical to do that 5x in a track day... I've been above 7k rpm >500x in a single day. My car is at 37k miles with the only issue being a coil pack that needed replacing. If this engine can't handle that long term expect this car to get dropped by thousands of people. |
I was told that my typical fourth-gear highway driving (uphill most of the way, full of dumbasses) would blow my engine up.

In my car it averages less than 10 minutes for the oil to warm up when driving slowly (less than 1/3 throttle application). -alex |

I took the faceplate off, used a black sharpie and covered the red stuff. Instant nine grand redline!

Carista shows about five minutes to "normal" operating temps as well.
