need a clutch assembly

Hey guys im gunna need a clutch assembly, where can i get one for good price (dealer is telling me $ 3,000+

fika84 04-14-2015 02:03 PM

not the dealer.... There is a used one in the for sale section. Or just get an aftermarket stage 1 clutch (I'd go with Clutchmasters).

Bonburner 04-14-2015 02:26 PM

stock clutch is from Exedy Stage 1 - if memory serves me correct

gramicci101 04-14-2015 02:48 PM

OEM clutch is Exedy, but not stage 1. Stage 1 is a still an organic clutch, but it's a step up from OEM. Compared to the Stage 2 clutch, which has a three puck cerametallic disc.

OEM clutch ($222): http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/exed...h-kit-988.html
Stg 1 clutch ($395): http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/exed...h-kit-790.html
Stg 2 clutch ($550): http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/exed...utch-1995.html

I found the OEM flywheel on SubaruOnlineParts.com for $210.

Tcoat 04-14-2015 04:22 PM

What kind of driving do you do?

93frs 04-14-2015 04:25 PM

Daily driver but i do drive a bit hard put i plan on taking it easier on the car after replacing it

strat61caster 04-14-2015 04:26 PM

The only way I could see a $3k quote is if by 'clutch assembly' they mean more than just the friction plate, pressure plate, and throwout bearing as that job is at most $1,500 (and could be as low as <$500 for a specialty shop).

What is the problem that needs fixing? You could go do the clutch job but with zero success if you're trying to fix say a noise in the pedal/hydraulics that could be fixed with a squirt of lube.

gramicci101 04-14-2015 04:26 PM

Also, what kind of power mods do you have?

Braces 04-14-2015 04:28 PM

How many miles on your car before needing the new clutch?

93frs 04-14-2015 04:30 PM

The problem i was having was hard to put the car into gear, i had to jam it into gear actualy, and at low rpm taking off car was kinda shaky, also i noticed my clutch pedal was not coming up like normal

93frs 04-14-2015 04:31 PM

Im at 29k

93frs 04-14-2015 04:45 PM

And itts bone stock

Tcoat 04-14-2015 04:55 PM

Please don't freak out!

How much experience with MT?
A novice can ruin a clutch in a heartbeat without even knowing it.

Yeah a 'clutch job' is unlikely to fix this problem unless the pressure plate has collapsed and there is nothing left of the friction disc. I would be attacking the pedal assembly and clutch hydraulics which can certainly add up to $3k if you do the brute force fix of 'replace everything' which is the dealerships favored most profitable approach.

Why is the dealership not covering this under warranty? This does not sound like user error unless you have FUBAR the disc and it's disintegrated. It honestly sounds like a hydraulics problem.

fika84 04-14-2015 05:08 PM

^^ I second the fact that this is absolutely hydraulic related.

Your release bearing probably stuck

Push for a warranty repair, make them prove that it was user error.

Everybody, this is why you ask questions when diagnosing problems.

this sounds like an issue i had the assembly that guides the shift rod ( what ever its called came loose and i couldnt get it int gears) once tighten it worked like a charm. The dealer didnt even charge me for the fix (still under warrenty) as for the pedal i would make sure your fluid levels are good and bleed the master.

if there is play in your shifter when in gear its definitly that selection rod assembly.
