OpenFlash Tablet: Pedal Dance Mode

Hi guys,
I briefly mentioned this in the datalogging thread but here is the official announcement :)

By the end of the week, all OFT users will have access to new selection in the OFT's Diagnostic menu:

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k4...6/IMG_0764.jpg

When you select it, you will see this:
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k4...6/IMG_0765.jpg

When you click YES, you will see this:
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k4...6/IMG_0766.jpg

When you click YES, you will be driving without any form of driving aids. Also nice is the fact that you will still be able to datalog or data view with the OFT while you are in this mode.

To disable the mode, you simply need to turn the ignition OFF and then back ON.

The engine must be warm when selecting this mode. This means idle speed must be normal (not high for warm-up). If you try this command before the engine is warm, the OFT will give you a communication error :)

We should have this uploaded to our update server later this week. So all you guys will need to do is connect your OFT to OpenFlash manager and let the updates take place. You will also need to update to a new Template file (#7) which will be available for download from our website soon.

Cheers,
shiv

PS. Props to Silver Ignition for making this suggestion :)

You really know how to treat a lady @Shiv@Openflash

REAV3R 03-24-2015 08:52 PM

Awwwww YEAH! You've done it again, Shiv! Thanks for a great product and AWESOME support! OFT worth every penny spent!

Bobblehead 03-24-2015 09:03 PM

This is truly awesome. Does the OFT have to be plugged in for pedal dance mode to stay on, like the weird OBD port thing that FT86SF sells?

I can't wait for autocross this year.

Chimera 03-24-2015 09:21 PM

Awesome

sstfnv 03-24-2015 09:26 PM

This is great but people who track their cars want to plug in a lap timer/gps logger into the OBD port. I wish the next version of OFT comes with a lap timer built in so I can retire my AIM Solo DL :)

DAEMANO 03-24-2015 09:30 PM

Can't believe the value I'm getting with my OFT. @Shiv@Openflash you're killing the game. Killin' it!

Kostamojen 03-24-2015 09:51 PM

Oh crap, I need this update by this weekend for the local Autox!!! :burnrubber:

Shiv@Openflash 03-24-2015 10:04 PM

Glad you guys are happy :) From my testing so far, the OFT does not need to be plugged in once the pedal dance command is sent. However, the car will only remain in pedal dance mode until the ignition is cycled. After that, it will default back to normal TC/VSC ON mode until you send the command again. Pretty simple stuff!

rickjames 03-24-2015 10:13 PM

Nice work Shiv, I'm really impressed with the updates coming so long after release. Shows true headroom in the product hardware and support for the community, well done!

Tromatic 03-25-2015 01:40 AM

Save me, Jeebus! That's cool.

ETA: Any chance the OFT will ever go wireless with a BT or WiFi dongle?

Mad1723 03-25-2015 07:31 AM

Thanks Shiv!! By the way, there is a typo in this image:

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k4...6/IMG_0764.jpg

Tuing instead of tuning :) It's present on my OFT too, probably a simple update :P

Oh, and thanks again, because it can never be said enough :D

zc06_kisstherain 03-25-2015 10:52 AM

@Shiv@Openflash,

you suck! why is this keep getting better and better?
really impressed on updated features from one product!
yeah..i am happy lol

thanks!

GotBRZ1691 03-25-2015 11:18 AM

Damn it @Shiv@Openflash I just put new tires on the rear :burnrubber:

just get an extension OBD cable and run it up to the cupholder area...

makes things a ton easier and saves the flimsy ass OBD connector on our vehicle from damage- it's increasingly obvious the part wasn't meant for such heavy use

Which is funny because my 2005 Corolla's ODB2 port is much more durable!

btw, how do we update template files? I get 87942 template file errors when I try to view real-time data logs.

Thorpedo 03-25-2015 12:23 PM

Color me tickled. You guys keep adding stuff to make track/autocross guys' lives easier!

Keep up the good work.

step 1. Download template file from OFT website downloads page

step 2. Connect OFT and fire up OFM

step 3. "Upgrade" or "Update" (next to upload data), selecting the template file you downloaded off the site

fixed lol

stratodyne 03-25-2015 02:21 PM

I love the continual updates you guys have been making to the OFT. Also, your customer service is great too! NEVER GO OUT OF BUSINESS :D

Slick 03-25-2015 02:34 PM

Great stuff Shiv.

As a Canadian vendor of your OpenFlash products, I'm very happy with the continued progress and support for our members.

Now bring on the OFT350!:burnrubber:

No this will effectively turn off ALL electronic driver aids, used as a diagnostic mode for manufacturers we use it to disable ABS and traction completely along with any other driver aids that would normally kick in even if you hold the trac button for 5sec.

ABS stays ON. It disables pretty much everything else like panic braking, ICE mode, EBD, traction, stability, etc.

this

Pedal dance/Pedal dance mode does NOT disable ABS

Tromatic 03-25-2015 04:40 PM

If you have not done the pedal dance before, I highly recommend you try it somewhere remote. The nannies in the FR-S/BRZ are quite good, and running without them can be a surprise. The car will "depart controlled flight" in a heartbeat after doing the dance.

x2 with Tromatic

I used to drive 97 Miata and it had no ABS or traction control and other control aid tech. unless you know the vehicle, i wouldnt just try this on public road. try Pedal dance on safe environment area and learn from it.

You're the man shiv!

Celadrielas 03-25-2015 07:43 PM

Ok... so as an OFT user and a Pedal dancer, am I the only one who sees this as a "If the OFT is hooked up" thing? I mean it takes like 10 seconds to do the pedal dance.

Edit: I forgot to say that I appreciate that the OFT is constantly getting updated and getting new features. I just don't understand why this is getting such high marks of praise, I guess.

Useful for those who also datalog a lot. It takes second to activate it with the tablet and then you can datalog. It's a convenience feature

That's sort of what I mean by "if it's hooked up" sort of thing. -- I data logue fairly often but don't see myself going to hook up the OFT just for the pedal dance.

this is a major bonus for me because ... when I am on the race track, I am using the OFT as a gauge to monitor oil temps, FLKC and IAM. So it's already hooked up and if I want to be in pedal dance mode now I have that option too. You're right though, if you don't already have it hooked up it is certainly faster to do the pedal dance yourself once you've got it practiced.

yeah like others said convenient feature.
some people prefer using OFT to do pedal dance instead of doing 10 sec using your hands and feet

this is not high marks of praise.
high marks of unlimited updates recently

I am fairly sure ICE mode is a function of ABS so can still trigger. I also recall a thread suggesting without the other nannies ICE made was more easily triggered after the pedal dance.

Blu-by-U 03-27-2015 12:08 AM

Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been my understanding that the Pedal Dance has to be performed within the first 30 seconds after ignition. Is the OFT option not the same and can be performed at any given time?

And many thanks for a new left hand button.

Edit: The pedal dance button worked first time and well after the warm-up cycle settled down.

I just gave the programmers the go-ahead to post everything up. So the update should be ready by the morning (PST).

I've also posted the new template file that you will need (Template 7.1). And the new User Software (v1.18.4) which will automatically delete any old datalog files that are no longer compatible with the new firmware. Both of these can be downloaded from here:

http://openflashtablet.com/Automotiv...ads/index.html

Have a good night :)

Shiv

KoolBRZ 03-27-2015 09:21 PM

Shiv, I've upgraded the OF manager to 1.18.4, upgraded to Template 7, connected with wifi numerous times, but still no pedal dance on my OFT. Is the upgrade live yet?
