Any negotiations on MSRP prices ?

Guys,

On the BRZes you have purchased. Were you able to get a price lower than MSRP on any of them ? I know about Scions pure price BS...but apparently they also are negotiable on it.

What is the best price you guys have gotten a BRZ premium for ?

Kimsey47 06-11-2012 05:16 PM

MSRP, they were not going to negotiate because they know they can get the next guy in line to pay it!

saadkhan07 06-11-2012 05:26 PM

Not even a cent less huh ? I want to pay MSRP+TAX, thats all. I think the doc fee is beyond bogus

Longhorn248 06-11-2012 05:50 PM

IIRC there's one guy on here that got under MSRP, but that's because he got the deal solidified before pre-orders were even being taken, everyone else is paying MSRP or more (don't know why anyone would pay more). IMO you're not going to get one under MSRP until at the very earliest next year unless you have some connections with Subaru.

:word:Yeah, that was all I had... They did not charge me a doc fee or anything else! The only price that I was able to work on was my trade-in.

michaelahess 06-11-2012 06:39 PM

I got about $60 under with no doc fee as it was adjusted in the cost. You could say I got it for 460 under MSRP if you look at it that way! :) Course it hasn't shown up yet, but I do have a signed delivery sheet showing that price. :)

Zgrinch 06-11-2012 06:43 PM

A few of us in Tampa are getting our BRZ under MSRP,but it was cut off at three people, and I was fortunate to be third.

Turbowned 06-11-2012 06:53 PM

I didn't even try, haha. I was just happy not to be charged $1k over MSRP like my friend.

Cheddar 06-11-2012 07:01 PM

I was happy with MSRP lol with the way things are in the south.

That's my thinking as well. I was just happy to pay MSRP for it without getting hit with mark-ups. If you are willing to take a chance on not getting one this year go for it and negotiate.

jimbobrand 06-11-2012 08:27 PM

I got mine for under MSRP and I didn't even have to ask for it...

$9 to be exact, because the dealer transposed two numbers on the paperwork and never caught it.

Turbowned 06-12-2012 06:36 AM

Oddly enough I think I'm getting it for $15 under what it lists on Subaru's site... $28,265 vs. $28,280... That'll be enough to cover the gas to get to the dealership from where I live ;)

brzninja 06-12-2012 08:35 AM

No negations here...MSRP + TAX + Plates. Very good dealership. I asked them if they do dealer markups and his response was "we don't do that stuff here". Breath of fresh air.

Dave-ROR 06-12-2012 09:08 AM

For some one us, yes. For most, no.

Just don't pay over retail.

Shizuma 06-12-2012 10:15 AM

I'm paying MSRP, I didn't even bother trying to haggle with them because I knew with how few BRZ's they are making if I don't take it at MSRP someone else will, the only thing I haggled with them on was my trade in.

I can't really complain either since I didn't pre-order or anything, drove by a Subaru dealer Friday, saw a BRZ out front and decided to go in and check it out, take it for a test drive, told them exactly what I was looking for, Black BRZ premium AT with the spoiler and nothing else, they found one, it's being shipped to them today and I pick it up tonight, so 4 days from when I randomly walked in to take a look at one they got me my car, can't complain about that all with how limited the BRZ is this year :)

I wonder if that's the one I tried out before. Good for you though on getting your car.

don't be suckered in, anything is negotiable, you just got to talk to a lot of dealerships in your area, there's bound to be one that will to do business with you for couple hundred less in profit.

that's what i did and i got invoice + 500

In the NE, obviously that can happen.. but in other areas with only 3 or 4 Subaru dealerships all getting 7 or less cars.. good luck.

It still comes down to supply and demand and the NE has a lot more supply than other areas.

that's true, you got a point Dave.... I see pretty much all Subaru dealers in the west coast are selling this thing out. Good luck to those folks.

That's entirely possible, I know they said it was from a dealer out in the western part of the state, Black BRX premium with a spoiler.

Lytheum 06-12-2012 11:35 PM

im a horrible negotiator! wasnt gonna bother with the price of the car since they agreed to MSRP before pricing was announced. I tried to negotiate on my trade and got another $500. Just waiting for the car to show up so I can sign my name a whole bunch of times.

DarthRader 09-10-2012 04:29 PM

Im wondering... if I am ordering, and paying in "cash"... I should be able to get under MSRP. Don't you think?

I highly doubt it ... they don't care if you pay cash or finance .... it's a hot commodity now. :D

x 2
because of high demand.
you got nothing to lose and walk-away if dealer said no.

when i read article "Top 10 worst-cars to negotiate", there were 3-4 cars of Subaru's including BRZ. BRZ was #1. and 2-3 cars of Audi

Turbowned 09-10-2012 05:03 PM

That's what happens when you get a hot product. I actually had a couple walk out in an extremely rude fashion after I told them we were not discounting the Audi Q5. They looked at me shocked and said "but, you didn't take any money off the price", and apparently they hadn't opened up any consumer resource that would tell them just how hard it was to even have a Q5 on a dealer lot, let alone get a discount. Apparently they didn't see the value; they ended up buying a Volvo for $5k off MSRP, because obviously Volvo doesn't know how to sell cars that people want :iono:

I'm really surprised the Impreza isn't on that list. We have only been discounting pre-orders. They're selling in a matter of a few days. We've sold out of our allocation of BRZ's already :(

They make more money from people who finance with them, cash is not a motivator. If you place a factory order you may be able to get below MSRP, depending on the dealer. Some won't waste their allotment and you may find yourself waiting for supply to stabilize if you aren't willing to pay MSRP.

Squishy 09-10-2012 07:35 PM

I am surprised you haven't looked at the vendor posting in the dealer cars ads.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16084

They seem to be discounting from MSRP depending on how far you want to go and colors.

I am currently working a deal on a WRB BRZ 6MT and picking it up this Thursday. :burnrubber:

Turbowned 09-10-2012 07:43 PM

Paying cash is not enticing to a dealer anymore; quite the opposite really. From what I've been told, it actually costs a paperwork fee to do a cash transaction vs. getting a kickback from the bank with financing.

Mr. Sociable 09-10-2012 08:10 PM

I paid ~$800 less than MSRP here in CO.

Squishy 09-10-2012 08:12 PM

Turbowned is correct in that for negotiations it is never a good point to discuss how you are going to pay. The best thing to do is to simply discuss the price pure and simple.

How you pay is a discussion for when they bring the financing guy in. You should never mix the two as you would lose a bargaining chip just as bringing a trade in as part of the deal is also just a bad idea as they would just move the numbers around - want lower than msrp? fine you get less trade in value.

ProjectD 09-10-2012 11:21 PM

Just your thoughts and input --- was $31,500 (drive home/ T,T,T)(MSRP = $28,800.00) a good deal? :D

<---- currently waiting on Bank to give me a callback in the AM.

Squishy 09-11-2012 08:03 AM

I dunno I am paying right below 30k (~28065 for out of state purchase (500 over invoice + wheel locks) + about under 1800 for tax in my state, 40 for smog inspection, 55 for plates and registration).
I just have to drive my car back from NH to Texas so my car is broken in and I get to stop by the Tail of the Dragon on the way back. :burnrubber:

Still if you get the car you wanted, then it is worth every penny for you.

Cash or not the dealer shouldn't care cause its chase bank ( if financing it thru subaru) that gets the interest not the dealer.

Those Meddling Kids 09-11-2012 01:35 PM

Got mine for $1000 under msrp in Colorado.

Tbxgz 09-11-2012 02:19 PM

Paid 700 over invoice.

The dealer is still receiving a commission from the bank for arranging the financing.

King Tut 09-11-2012 03:31 PM

I used the make an offer option on the Subaru dealer's website and got $500 off MSRP with no haggling or hastle. Easiest car purchase I have had.

the_3d_man 09-11-2012 09:49 PM

With winter approaching fast (for those of us unlucky enough to find ourselves up North for whatever reason), I can't see these cars being a hot seller for much longer. Mine still hasn't come in and I no longer plan on buying the BRZ because of the ridiculous wait. I will offer them 1000 under MSRP and if they say no I'm cancelling my order and getting my money back. I'll just buy it when I get back to Houston :) Good luck to the dealership on selling a rear wheel drive sports car, with summer tires stock from the factory, when there's snow on the ground.

reeves 09-12-2012 12:35 AM

When you guys say "MSRP", are you refering to the price of the car without any options.?

Delivery fee seems automatically included, so is that considered part of the MSRP? I have yet to find any BRZ's or FR-S's without a delivery/destination fee.

What if you chose a option package? There's a $700 package that includes the rear spoiler and a few other items I don't remember.

So if the car had that option package on it (assuming there's no mark-up on the package itself), would you now consider MSRP to be: base price + delivery fee + option package cost?

Squishy 09-12-2012 11:15 AM

MSRP to me is the base price with no options including the destination/delivery fee. Options are another matter (they have an msrp and invoice price as well) but they are usually not included in the MSRP price most people benchmark from as this is what is listed on Subaru's website.
