Not if you care about your car.

lsxiong 03-01-2015 01:24 AM

Is your car even set up for e85? You can't just put e85 in a normal 86

Without flexfuel kit and sensor, read this or you will risk messing stuff up real bad.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67310

Even if you had access to e85, running it stock is not even close to ideal. If you're down to risk this crazy homebrew idea, at least do it well informed.

Please back away from the 86... Better do your research before destroying the poor car.

Ya, if you want to blow up.

fika84 03-02-2015 04:57 PM

Do they let you google this in China? Or you just want other people to do your research for you? You could probably find a company in China that makes something...

Mix one 55 gallon drum of pure Ethanol with 10 gallons of race gas and there you go.
And then you can run it in your car with nothing but a tune. (you trust the words of some unkonwn person on the internet dont you?) :bellyroll:

Luckily you are not in the US.
If you mentioned that you were blending your own gas here, the police would shut you down.

There are laws against making your own fuel in the US.

I am pretty sure that Google in China isn't quite the same as Google in the US...

ntron1 03-02-2015 05:36 PM

The direct answer to your question is yes, you could make your own E85 although it is far more than mixing gasoline with alcohol. It is very likely you could not afford the required equipment to do it and it may not be legal in China.

As many others have noted, the corrosive nature of E85 makes a flex fuel kit a necessity.

AznBRZer 03-02-2015 05:51 PM

I'm guessing this kid's parents have the money, but this kid has none of the sense to make it (not) happen.

Not according to many on this forum that have been doing it for over a year with no flex fuel kit at all.

As far as I know, the flex fuel kits don't change out any major parts of the fuel system; they only add in an ethanol content analyzer. So the flex fuel kit doesn't address the corrosive nature of E85 at all (if it even needs to be addressed--time will tell.)

You're thinking of their version of Twitter. I have no idea who their primary search provider is.

Gotcha! Ain't that some *&^(. That explains the asking of the question! As others have stated, yes you can do it.. is it simple? Not from what I've seen. I would work without it if I was you. Can you do a meth injection as a work around?

What's the motivation to use E85? As others have pointed out, it is not as easy to work with as gasoline (you'll need a kit) and it contains less energy than gasoline.

You don't need a kit, just a tune.
Motivation is generally more power.

to second Andrew025, you can run E85 with only a tune (OFT is only like $500 and has OTS E85 tunes), no kit required. On an otherwise-stock car, it's a noticeable kick in the pants. But its real value is in FI setups--it allows for a HUGE increase in power. As in, kits that run 280whp on pump 93 can put out 400+hp when tuned for E85.

I make my own gas. So does my 7 yr old son. We think its hilarious. My wife not so much.

Yes.

Sure can make your own. Check your local laws!

industrial 03-05-2015 09:36 AM

The real answer is, you might want to look into water/methanol injection.

1GiantTurtle 03-06-2015 12:49 AM

i think making e85 lab just for e85 is more of a headache compared to going FI on 98 octane (china uses RON so 98Ron = 91 AKI)

Maybe invest in a SC like vortech or innovative ?
