CEL @ 2500 miles on RS 1.0

So I just got this on the way into work this morning:
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-N...120_094247.jpg

I'm going to pull the code as soon as I get home from work and take it to a Toyota dealership tomorrow morning. Considering I bought this as a daily driver due to my Evo having severe engine issues I'm very much not happy right now. Praying it's something trivial...

LucidMomentum 01-20-2015 01:30 PM

What year is yours? I have a '15 at almost 4000 miles right now and no issues so far.

Koa 01-20-2015 01:32 PM

thanks for that reassurance lucid, 4k miles is sure a lot and must be rare to not have any issues ;)

btw the rs1.0 is 2015 only

GL op

Well I'm just saying, if he's having issues at almost half the miles I have it may not be a good sign :p

Koa 01-20-2015 02:07 PM

yes that's obvious haha. most 2015's don't have stupid light triggers if they're oem so that definitely is cause for concern

4000 miles Ha Ha Ha Ha !
I do 4000 miles a month!!!!!
I won't be laughing so loud when I burn through warranty in a year and a half or trade in time comes though.

Nothing weird happen? Light just come on?

evan 01-20-2015 02:26 PM

It could be trivial. Who knows. I would highly recommend that you get yourself a nice little OBD2 reader. It will pay for itself and give you a great point from which you can troubleshoot or decide what to do next.

Tomcat07 01-20-2015 02:35 PM

Idk what's going on with your car but take it in. I'm sure they will fix it for free. My 2015 has 13000 miles on it and it's never had a CEL... Yes I managed to put 13k miles on a 2015, that's not a typo.

jflogerzi 01-20-2015 02:37 PM

pull the code. Can you detect any differences in the way the car drives?

I must be boring as hell because I've had the car since August of last year and I'm just hitting 4K. Granted I really just use it to get to work and then to go out on the weekends and haven't had the pleasure of road tripping yet.

kevman_101 01-20-2015 02:50 PM

Gas cap not tight enough?

Spending 14 hours a a week commuting is not exactly exciting!
I probably have under 1000 city miles since I got mine in August.

1GiantTurtle 01-20-2015 03:25 PM

Any mods installed?

Nothing that I've seen/felt. Happened while driving 15mph on a flat street.

I have a way to pull codes just can't do it at work. Will be doing it the second I get home. If it isn't trivial this might turn into the shortest owned RS 1.0.

Ya they'd better fix it. Warranties exist for a reason.

270 miles into a tank? Doubtful.

This isn't my first rodeo guys. I posted it here to see if anyone would chime in with common issues and, mostly, because I'm frustrated as hell. I'll have the code(s) pulled and posted by 6:00PM PST. This thing is completely stock, has never been red lined, and mostly sees city driving. I would think 3-4 years into this platform this crap wouldn't be happening no matter how trivial it may/may not end up being.

Not very common at this point but not all cars are perfect even when brand new!
They will fix it and all will be good in the world.

STV3 01-20-2015 04:00 PM

One of your crickets must have went bad...

STV3 01-20-2015 04:01 PM

lol no in all seriousness maybe a sensor or plug somewhere is loose? One of the O2 sensor plugs not on fully?

Just some things you can check

Don't over react, it's most likely something simple. It's not uncommon for relatively new cars to have a CEL. As with computers, if an electronic component is going to fail it's often early in it's life. Once you get past that you should be fine. Whether or not the car gets properly repaired is going to come down to the quality of the tech working on it. This is assuming that you haven't done any Mods or flashing.

This^ getting all butt hurt over a CEL that hasn't even been pulled is jumping the gun a little. I too had a POS EVO so I understand the frustration :)

Dealer will fix it.

BlaineWasHere 01-20-2015 05:22 PM

Don't worry, I didn't blow my motor until over 80K miles.

Touge_ninja 01-20-2015 05:50 PM

Blinker fluid is low....

torqdork 01-20-2015 06:08 PM

Some have posted that parts of the RS 1.0 package are port installed options. If so, maybe yours was a Monday morning car and a sensor circuit was affected during PIO installs.

Let the dealership scan the code, it shifts responsibility to them. While you're driving it around with the light on, who knows if any further damage is being done (doubtful, but the owner's manual CYA says to take it to the closest dealership ASAP).

Based on what I'm reading about these codes this will be fun...

Tcoat 01-20-2015 08:59 PM

Not as bad as it looks!
Nobody has reported that one for a while though.

FirestormFRS 01-20-2015 09:02 PM

*Knocks on wood* 41k miles and the only CEL i've ever gotten was a fuel pressure low/hi fault from the car sitting all winter. Reset and has never came back.

Hoping it's something simple like a bad sensor. Dealer may just reset it and see if it returns.

Sorry to hear about this. Hopefully it's fixed soon but if not, and assuming the dealership did the code scan, the buyback clock has started in one of the most customer favorable states in the US where the manufacturer reimburses initial cost including accessories, TT&L plus any finance or extended warranty costs incurred.

Trade-in time? What is that? This car is going to be at my funeral.

This a guy knows what he's talk about. I had the same issue dealer fixed it turned out to be nothing

Never saw it again

beatgenie 01-21-2015 12:12 AM

Why trip for? Take it to the dealer. If something is going to break or go wrong, I'd RATHER it break or go wrong while the car is under warranty.

Quentin 01-21-2015 12:22 AM

CEL @ 2500 miles on RS 1.0

Could be as simple as a half-lock on the cam angle sensor or some contamination in the VVT's oil control valve. Easy fixes that don't impact the vehicle long term at all.

Look at it this way: if it were something big, the check engine light would be flashing. A solid check engine light is usually small potatoes.

I must admit for a new car it is annoying for this sort of thing to happen, I had one of my new cars off the showroom have defective AC, the system wasnt charged at the factory, oh boy believe me I freaked out on them , because what kind of PDI was done? any sort of quality control at the factory?

But you have warranty so there isnt anything you need to stress about really, sont know how it is for you guys, but over here dealers take warranty claims seriously..........Well i guess they have to cos they make money off them in any case

extrashaky 01-21-2015 02:30 AM

30K miles in twelve months, and the only CEL I've had is one I caused myself by using Torque. Then I used Torque to scan it and clear it, which was all very meta.

All cars have issues. They're complicated machines.

Locust 01-21-2015 04:04 PM

Well it's sitting at the dealership and they want to hold onto it for 2 days.

Defuser 01-21-2015 04:21 PM

Hopefully they are at least giving you a loaner?

Driving a Camry around for two days will give you a whole new appreciation for your FR-S when you get it back!!
