turbo vtec
According to carbuzz, Honda will be providing a line up of vtec turbo engines which will be produced at their Ohio facility. Good news for enthusiasts. Perhaps they will start offering more exciting vehicles
|
I will petition for a new rwd prelude if I have to.
|
They'll probably figure out a way to integrate the turbo into the block so you can't replace it. Some of you will know what I mean.

They will continue to get the hate because most 18 year olds' civic are improperly modded fwd race car trying to drift, aka riced
However if they start developing a rwd Honda it's a different It will lead to the followings: 1. The newly developed Rwd civics will be like how 18 year olds in their mustangs in a ghetto area trying to do donuts. 2. Be very expensive like the s2k and youngsters will continue to rice out their fwd civic and integras because they don't have the money for a new car. Either way the Honda rice name is pretty much embedded on the car as soon as the car looks 1% different from when it left the dealership |

Crate engines well we'll see how they perform when they come out, would be great if something could stop the flood of LS swaps |
tell honda we did this shit back in 1998.... why you so late for all the time honda?
89 crx, b18, + turbo = game over thanks for giving us Type R civic in states Honda, you guys are idiots...... and this is coming from a die hard honda fan since the 80's, I'm always a sad panda... ; ; |
Honda did the right thing by turning their back on enthusiasts. The enthusiasts, were rarely the ones buying brand new cars and at some point they probably tainted the image of the brand a bit. Ducky hit the nail on the head.
The problem is that enthusiasts aren't happy with anything. Seriously. They used to do FWD very well but once they switched to MacPhails it was game over. Bring back the unequal length A-arms and a bare bones sporty hatch that would compete with the new Miata and the Twins. A 14:1 power to weight ratio it's exactly a tall target for a entry level niche sporty car. |

That is true, I drive a scion but I had a EK civic as my first car. Hondas are actually not bad of a car to drive, it's quite reliable and it's vtec does work when you are trying to get power like cutting onto the freeway. However(there always have to be a but after some praising as nothing's perfect), friends who don't have Hondas are always laughing at me at me for the vtec. Being at school parking lot always had kids staring and laughing at my "ricer civic" just because I had an aftermarket exhaust. There are some really nice after market stuff like mugen. It really sucks that other 17 18 year olds are ruining the image of honda. The main problem is of course MONEY. If kids had the money they can make their Honda looks super nice and it would just be the same as the Subaru community. None of that Ricey or vtec yoooo bullshit. An wrx are about twice the cost of si. (Not to mention the Sti) the market of Subaru is obviously not younger adults, and at a more mature group. While younger kids who cannot afford nice fast rides like subarus will go for civic and accords as their family will buy their first car for them. Because they are young they won't have much money for mods, they will go cheap and it will make the car look cheap. This cycle continues UNLESS Honda raise picks up their game meaning creating great vehicles like awd and rwd civics(two trims like is350 and TT etc.) making new vehicles won't help as the car deprecates, they need to make their price premium like subarus so prices don't depreciate that badly. Leave the cheap cars to other company like Toyota, Hyundai. Having a higher reputation brand is overall better than having a cheap affordable car. If a consumer is happy with its first Sti, they will most likely become a fanboy and upgrade to the newest gen. You don't see much of a beater civic upgrading to a brand new civic. Developing a new car or a new engine is not enough to raise the company's reputation overall(not yet at least) Enough ranting, if you read this far, continue and shit on my opinions if you disagree |
We need a return to powerbands that look like this, courtesy of a 500cc 2 strokehttp://www.rgv-500.com/dyno_files/rgv500_dyno001.jpg

that'd be quite hard to make a turbo vtec motor withstand an 11,000 possible rpm redline.

turbo vtec
Am I reading correctly? 89hp at 15000rpm?
|
I thought of this for some reason...
http://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/imag...il-88589-7.jpg anyways didn't the CEO of honda say they rather pursue efficient FWD vehicles in their line up, and wont be seeing any new sports cars. |

CrZ, accord sport, si? Does those count as sport? |
Thanks to the auto industry the word sport lost all meaning

The prelude wasn't a good car when it was produced, why release another bad vehicle? ;) <hides from the prelude fans> |

When I see that I think of a number of cars on this website and a ton of VW and BMW owners I see in Florida. Sad destruction of cars :( Honda has never said there would be no new sports cars, look at the NSX for clear evidence of that. However, they did make some comments (not through PR) that the light and raw cars they were known for are unlikely to ever return because they wouldn't be feasible. They were referring to cars like the old CTR, ITR, etc in those comments. |

Definition by the dictionary Sports car - a low-built car designed for performance at high speed. High speed - moving, operating, or happening very fast So a sports car is any car that is lower than standard cars, move faster than standard cars. Civic Si is faster than the regular civics Accord sport is lower and faster than the standard accord Crz is faster than the Prius So according to Honda they are the performance class of their vehicle Idk if I agree with my own statement, but I wouldn't call them a sports car, it's a sporty car but not a sports car? Same as genesis coupe, M3, etc They are a sporty version of the sedan but idk However, lotus, s2000, 370z imo it's a sports car Frs? Eh sporty I guess |
I believe sports cars are an unnecessary luxury, that most people cannot afford. Only the wealthy had sports cars but the industry gave the average Joe a chance to taste what a sports car feels like (MG, Triumph, 240z, etc). The Japanese started modding their mom's hand me down cars to make it in to a "sports car".
The poor will try to taste the luxury side of life, by mimicking a sports car feel with their econo boxes. I have a feeling that over time, there will be no more cheap sports cars in the market, and will only be existing for the few that can afford to have a 2nd "fun" car. The "enthusiast" will expect everything that a sports car should do + 100% reliability, comfort, power, good gas mileage, looks good, etc., Its just a pain in the ass market with no money involved. Like in Japan now, people will "mod" their mini vans/station wagons/econo boxes for aesthetics only (who has money to go race at the track?) with LED bling, body kits, stance and wheels, so why even buy a sports car if its only for attention? I just don't see a good market for affordable sports cars, and is no surprise that these companies veto'd the projects to move forward. I personally wouldn't. |

A big part of it has to do with us not being out of the woods regarding the economy. Also young buyers are leaving school with a buttload of debt. More affordable sports cars will come out when the economy is great for everyone again. |

The thing is, the sports car thing is most appealing to younger males but the ones who are buying are the older people. The young man usually gets a hand down car, when a parents look at a car, they will pick something more practical, and sports car are out of the region of a car for the family.
This lead to older people not buying sports car, younger people not being able to afford sports car. Their only market is that one spot where wealthy people who is either retired and always wanted a sport car as an 18 year old, or the retired old man buying one for his son. Even if sports car are cheaper, again it's more of a practical vs impractical thing. As you get older, you will meet more people and having a tiny sized two door with little to no room backseat is not good if you got to drive people or move stuff around. When people see the car culture of Japan its just the next level. In Japan most people don't care about the car having 1000unicorns they care about the looks of a car. Yes they have the led thing, and the gauges and other things inside to make their car look like a high tech machine. But that's the culture around there, they all goes out to a car meet and just show people their art done to the car. It's not about having a super fast car to street race anymore, it's about time spent on the car and your passion for modding. Some people will call it rice, but others calls it nice. |

I'd love to have the type R come out and would probably have the cash for one by the time it comes out. But it the source is from a dealer...that about as reliable as Fox News or MSNBC. One can dream tho... |

Unfortunately, the other than the Civic SI and possibly the S2000 variant they have speculated about since the S2000s demise I don't think anything in that department will happen. Hondas US brand is all about economy. The enthusiast niche is too small to make an impact on a company who sells hundreds of thousands of cars a year in the US alone. The performance/luxury will be held for the Acura brand. Can't step on the sales of a brand that somebody is willing to shell out 40+k on a rebadged Honda. |
As the economy recovers, and a possible boom coming in the next 3 years, we may see a spurt of sports cars (over sized ones, not light weight/cheap) and then crash with econo boxes or electric "Kei-car" like concept with a wagon or mini-van shape. Hauls shit/electric/small/cheap. Efficiency > everything else.
That is my prediction. |

When I was selling for Honda last year, The accord sport was so easy to sell, it sold itself! I wouldn't mind one in a 6-spd. Those are pretty rare! The headlights on the v6 model look very nice as well. |
I just want to see that sweet, sweet turbo S2000 successor as soon as possible.

Do you mind explaining to me how does this CVT works? It's 7 speed? I thought cvt has infinite amount of gears and when you need powers it shifts up automatically? And a cvt is equip with peddles? This is kinda confusing |
Quote:
If it's anything like the new WRX, the CVT can simulate the the ratios of a regular gearbox. The WRX does this in sport mode. |
Quote:
I'm still not understanding CVT, I've read that they only got 1 gear and it will shifting and shifting whenever you need more power |

Sooooo when comparing a cvt vs the frs's Auto box it blows it out of the water? Is it like between DCT and regular auto? |
Quote:
If I am in normal drive mode and I step on the gas to accelerate, once my RPM reach the most efficient point between power and economy the pulleys adjust so that is where the RPM stays regardless speed. Once I ease off the accelerator and cruise at a set speed the pulleys adjust and the revs drop down. It is a little weird at first because you expect the car to shift like a normal auto. However once I put the selector into Sport mode, the computer allows the CVT to shift more like a normal auto where revs climb, you shift, they drop etc. I know that CVTs are mainly used for economy but I've never first hand been able to experience a new WRX equipped with one. Never dropping boost between shifts would be nice. Here's a cool little link to give a basic idea of the CVT from Honda though: http://world.honda.com/automobile-technology/CVT/ |
