FFD Motorsport EVO2 Wheels

Stumbled upon them via social media, thought Id give them a share. First time I've ever heard of them, but after some quick research they seem to have their fair share in the racing scene. I've already inquired, and I was told that a design for 5x100 is in the works! Seems like a good option for a strong/lightweight wheel. Here's to hoping it'll be available on our platform soon.

Was told that the current spec below will run around $1200 USD. Not bad for 18x10 and ~20 lb?

Bead-Lock Technology

The Bead-Lock technology provides a means of keeping the bead of the tire seated firmly on the wheel. The serrated edge provides a mechanical friction advantage by biting into the rubber on the tire bead. In the past racers would resort to WD-40 or use of special tire lubes to reduce the chance of tire slippage, whereas the Bead-Lock technology provides a solution to the problem with no change to a regular tire mounting procedure.

When we designed the kit, we took many brake considerations into account to help with a variety of brake fitments (OEM and aftermarket) the result? A generous amount of clearance and the concave spoke design that you see.

Of course design is one thing, verification is another and I'm happy to show the proof of concept :D

Some of you may recognize the brakes from Arthur's car in the photos (Build thread here: Alcoolaid's Build thread.

He runs the LIC flares in the rear give plenty of clearance for the 10" width. Usually Arthur runs at 12mm spacer in the rear (18x10 +35 wheels), but since our demo tires are only 255's and generally this car sees much more tire, we put on a 24mm spacer for the purpose of demonstration.

Flow Form Manufacturing

The EVO2s are constructed through a flow forming process (also known as roll rim forging) where a rough casting is work shaped into the wheel barrel. When the wheel is spun and formed into the barrel shape, the grain structure that is created by the forming process adds strength to the barrel of the wheel. When the grain structure of the barrel is aligned it retains a higher strength than when it is random such as through older manufacturing methods such as gravity or low pressure castings. The advantage of using a hybrid process to form the wheel shape is that we can keep manufacturing costs low while keeping the high strength advantages of the forming process.
Since the grain structure of metals is not a common topic, perhaps an example of something more common such as carbon fiber can be used as an example of grain structures. The weave pattern in carbon fiber materials essentially uses the same principles as the fibers have strength in tension and so the fibers are overlapped to take advantage of the strength in multiple directions.

Most customers think of minimum weight when selecting a wheel. While this is true to a certain extent, a property that is often overlooked is the wheel stiffness. What I mean by this is that to a certain point, a wheel will flex and bend. Some wheels due to their nature of design will bend when going over large potholes or jumping kerbs on track for instance. These wheels are classified as having low stiffness, and while are usually very lightweight the trade-off is that they will tend to bend much more thus reducing driver feedback and response. Our wheels have a very high stiffness due to the spoke design and the flow formed construction providing great feedback and a robust wheel at a reasonable weight.

Would you guys prefer 17x9 or 18x10/18x9?

17x9 or 9.5 , need to clear the sti brembo for me .

16x8 is what I am after

The Graphite and Satin Black look delicious! I wouldn't mind them in 17x9 or 18x8.5 :)

Same here... ET+35 to +40 would be perfect. Those would look super-chunky with a 245 tire.

Haha still on the hunt for a nice set of used 17x8/9 wheels. Never really fan of the whole hella flush thing lol... 18x9.5 in a reasonable offset is the most Id ever run.

Any update for the 5x100 crowds , joe ?

Group buy for the 5x114.3 , 18x10 et32 ,20.5lbs is already started....$250 off the Msrp.

They can do the 5x100s , but need at least 10ppl committed ..... I got these info from nasioc.

I feel like they'd be best off offering both a 17x9 and 18x9.5 in 5x100 since a large majority of the people with these cars usually run that size.

hey guys,

so i went ahead and talked to the owners of ffd since they are local to me here in vancouver.

they are open to doing a 5x100 for us if we are interested, but they need to do it like a special order, and would need a minimum of 15 people that are willing to fully commit to purchasing (paying full price).

For sizing, it will be an 18x9.5, with an offset determined by us. There are 3 finishes: Silver, Graphite, and Black. It would probalby be easier and faster for the wheels to produce if we narrow it down to two colours

the available colors are : graphite, silver, and satin black. it may be easier for them if we only do 2 colors, so pick what you guys like.

the wheels are estimated to be somewhere between 1000-1250.

i guess i will just post up an interest list including myself, since i really want these for my car.

i personally want 18x9.5 +38 or something along those lines.

Also excited since its a Canadian company. But I would want 18x9.5 ET38-40 as well.

I would be game for 17x9 et35 in silver

Hey guys, just talked with FFD again to confirm things. Unfortunately they want to focus on the 18x9.5 sizing so they can get them out as soon as possible, and then possibly do 17 and other sizes when there is more demand.

So lets redo this list for 18x9.5 (we need a good offset to decide on). I'm sure if this is successful, they would be interested in doing other sizes as well|
