Pure Auto's 2JZ Swap Thread - The DRAGFRS
Hey guys, I'm sure some of you have already seen our build thread but since there's finally a swap forum I decided to move it over here as well. Our car was previously LS2 swapped before we decided to go 2JZ. The V8 swap was insanely fun and the only reason we decided to 2JZ was because we were offered good money for the LS2 setup. So being a lover of Supras, I decided its time to do what I wanted to do from the start- Put Toyota power into my Toyota!
The car will be purpose built for drag racing. I'm sure a lot of people won't like that but that's what I really enjoy and the 2JZ platform is no stranger to the 1320. Now for some pictures! http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psab2e8ed9.jpg Test Fitting With Stock Manifolds http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...ps06d57cc4.jpg Test Fitting Our Beautiful PowerHouse Racing Turbo Manifold http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psca51b13c.jpg The Precious, Borg Warner S400SX 67MM FMW http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...pse1133ff5.jpg Test Fitting Our Custom Intake Manifold With Wilson Throttle Body http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psc72d0bd3.jpg Starting To Clean Up The Rest Of the Engine Bay- ABS Delete, Booster Delete, Partial Wire Tuck http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psd6131c8f.jpg Engine Is Nearly Complete! Just have to degree the cams and she's all set! http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psqzq6youn.jpg Meanwhile, the car is getting a massive face lift. Partially shaved bay and fixing all the small knicks and bumps. It's so greeeeeen! Wraps and great, plastidip is cheap, but there is no replacement for the hard work and art of a full paint job! http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psmh0hfrdh.jpg http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...pstchbg62e.jpg Starting to piece the bay back together for insertion, transmission is on it's way! http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/...psrtz7ztgw.jpg I'm not online every day, but I will try to keep the thread updated as we go! :burnrubber: |
Looking forward to next Spring :)

Looks Awesome, I would like to do a 2JZ swap to mine one day. At Least I know where I can go to get it done.
|
Those are some ugly ass wheels. But at the same time, if i saw a car with those on, i would try my best not to pass them...

Open ended question here but...
How much would it cost for a basic turn-key 2jz swap? |
Quote:
Engine/Trans, if you go V160, you're talking $8k Custom Wiring Harness, starting at $800 Custom Driveshaft, at least $500 if you get it deal Custom intercooler piping, WG, BOV $1000 + Turbo Manifold $1500 and up for quality setups Custom downpipe and dump tube $500+ Turbo $1000-25000 depending on what kind/size Clutch, Flywheel, Custom Shifter- If you plan to make real power $1400+ Stand Alone Engine Management $2000 RacePack Dash $800 Custom hoses for radiator, heat, A/C, etc. $500+ Axles to support 600+hp Rear end to support 600+ ^ This puts you around $13k and we haven't even opened this used motor to build or do maintenance on anything. You're going to want cams, cam gears, valve springs, retainers, new water pump, new timing belt, new gaskets, at a MINIMUM before you put it in the car, there's another $1500 not including labor. Now you're talking $15k in parts alone, now someone has to spend xx amount of days properly installing everything, clearencing everything, tuning, etc. I don't mean to sound ignorant, arrogant, presumptuous, etc. But this is my 3rd engine/trans setup in this car and I can tell you from experience, its ALOT of work and ALOT of unexpected expenses that you come across as you do a swap. I wish I could tell you we do 2JZ swaps for $10k installed but I would be lying and giving you false hope. *** Disclaimer: This is NOT an advertisement. None of the prices I have put above are in any way an actual price quote for any services/parts. I am simply using numbers for an explanation that people need to see to understand. Please don't delete this as an attempt to advertise, it is NOT. |

that's kind of funny...

Everyone who has said it can be done for less than $20K has talked about doing the work themselves with maybe some contracting out for fab work or buying a kit to do the install. That being said, I love this build and I can understand selling the lsx if the price was right. Most things are for sale for the right price. Jaden:thumbsup: |
