Seized motor!! What STX mods should I do while I have the motor out??
So I ended up popping my motor in my FR-S (I know FML!) so I am going to be dropping a lightly used motor in (my car has 80K miles on it).
Anyway I was thinking of doing a clutch for sure (which clutch?) while the motor is out but are there any other STX mods I should do while I have the motor out? Mounts? Baffled oil pan? Thanks for the help guys! Wish me better luck on the next motor! |
Oh man, sorry to hear about your bad luck. Unfortunately I don't have anything to contribute to this thread. Any idea what caused it?

I have the moroso oil pan installed for cheap insurance. Attachment 97220
I also did an oil cooler and pressure gauge. Attachment 97221 |
I  cooler shrouding.

Things you can do for STX:
-Mounts -Accessory pulleys (and belts) -Oil pan & pickup -Oil Cooler -all the intake & exhaust & tune stuff Sadly, clutch must remain stock or stock-equivalent. |
I was under the impression that oil pan must remain stock in stx?
the cooler was approved recently? |
Clutch has to be stock or equivalent.
I'd do mounts, pulleys, all the power mods for ST*. I am not sure if oil pan or oil cooler is allowed in ST*? |
Oil Cooler was approved in Dec. Fastrack for ST* is legal for 2015.

Shiet, more money to spend. Is it necessary, though? For autocross...

Necessary? I wouldn't know, I've only owned one for 4 months, and I'm just starting to dig deep in to STX prep.
BUT, it is a lot easier to do some of that stuff (oil pan) with a motor that is off the car. So if it's in budget, why not? |

Speaking of, how are the temps at Crow's in April? Much cooler than June I hope? |

I've been looking at oil pans and baffling lately. Seems like its only needed in sustained high Gs but is also cheap insurance. I think that and pulleys would be the best things while the motor is out |

Any idea what happened? |
Did you even read... it's in the first 2 posts after the OP...

It's not in the budget because I'm buying a used motor but I think this will help the car a lot and maybe help avoid whatever happened to me! |
Which oil cooler is that with the shroud?
I did a RacerX oil pan and am still in STX. The windage tray is bolted to the block. I am not sure that Moroso baffle plate is legal. |
Will that oil cooler shroud work on a BRZ? I just got an oil cooler and don't want to install in in front of my radiator and intercooler. I'd rather have it off to the side/sacrifice a fog light.

What's the best solution of the oil pan?
|
Best solution is probably the RacerX pan. It has baffling, and adds 1L of capacity, helping with temps. Downside is you have to trim or remove stock header heat shield (fine in stx).
The Moroso is cheaper, works in the stock pan. :iono: Up to you, I think. Not sure who else makes them, yet. |
So what is happening with the junk motor then?
|
No motor is "junk".
I prefer to think of them as racing hondas in another dimension! |

oh man! What happened? Glad you found a replacement so fast. Oil coolers are now ok for ST classes and thats awesome. If I had my engine out I would do that and an oil pan. Mounts also, why not?
