Tada Q&A with video
No FI from Toyota, at least while he's on the project so pretty much never, promise of performance upgrades the next two model years....straight from the horses mouth.
1:13 about the upcoming models... https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=872444446099290 |
Scion RS 2.0 here it comes.

He mentioned two other sport models in development but shied away from the MR2 question. I suspect we have seen the last of the mid-engine, affordable cars from Toyota. I guess I will hang on to mine forever. |
You guys and your OEM turbocharged pipe dreams ahaha.
As I have always believed, it is up to us, the owners, to do our own forced induction. Tetsuya Tada said it, "Forced induction will be up to third parties". Toyota already gave us the base car to work with. Just add the damn turbo that you so want!!! |

You have the best of all worlds with your hardtop, one of the best looking cars of the past 25 years. I'd remove or gut the pre-cats and stock up on replacement service parts before it hits 25 years old and drops off the standard parts system. Have fun driving your future classic. |
Okay. So no FI .... ever. Possible soft-top which I think would look good. A new upcoming "upgraded" 86 which has piqued my interest. Hopefully no more external garnishments, but PERFORMANCE enhancements.
|
What kind of performance upgrades can they really do that anyone will actually care about? Honestly... Unless they are dropping 200 pounds off the weight, it sounds like the best bang for the buck will continue to be used 2013 models.
He has mentioned the possibility of it getting a different engine altogether at some point... Maybe it will get a 2.5L in a year or two then... Then again, that contradicts what he has said about all upgrades being available to early adopters. They've contradicted themselves quite a few times, honestly... |
He said "I have no intention to make a forced induction engine by Toyota"
There's still hope people the engine is made by Subaru...lmao :bonk:  |

Kodos on posting a factual interview. Now just leave it at that and leave the rumours and speculation out of it! |

Forums are public bulletin boards for opinions like.... "I think the Subaru engine era for the 86 is over. Seems like BMW may be in the next model year FR-S." It's just wishful thinking but not counting on it. Relax man. |
The fact is that there is no official statement anyplace that Subaru is out nor BMW in.
You just keep on waiting for the next model year when everything will be perfect OK Done. No further comment nor debate from me. |
Good interview. Seems like he takes a lot of pride and ownership over the ongoing GT86 project, which was probably a key factor in the Twins' past success and is encouraging for future development. Can't wait to see what's to come.

As far as the looks go, some love it and some hate it. Most of the gen 2 people hate it but it gets a ton of attention with the hardtop at the Cars and Coffee or around town. But as you know there is nothing else on the road quite like it and although I wish Toyota would do another MR2, I am really OK if they don't because I would probably be disappointed with what they produce. If I didn't have it though I really like the RS 1.0. |

:bellyroll: NEW MR2? there goes lotus sales |
This car starts to become unsafe for your standard driver with a turbo IMO.. I was just imagining today what it would feel like. Its maniacle. its so lite already id be loosing traction everywhere. They are trying to sell to the general public. Its a squirrelly fun car right out of the box. a turbo would be too much for kids buying an under 30k sports car. their would be so many wrecks if this ting came with 250 lbs of torque. It would be nuts. Crazy fun.. but nuts

Thanks for the video. I would love to meet Tetsuya Tada he seems like a nice guy =D

Certain people seem unwilling to remember one of the main goals of this car: decent performance at a low-ish pricepoint. Putting a BMW engine into this equation is illogical.
It was not ever meant to be the best at anything, I think the fact that it is pretty damn good the WAY IT IS should make people happy, but then, when are humans EVER happy? Take the extra $5k they would charge you to build the car with 50-100 extra horsepower, and DO IT YOURSELF. As has been stated numerous times, by numerous people who are not blind to the obvious. Basically, "I want a Porsche Cayman S for $25,000". Keep dreamin', or find one with a salvage title. |

Actually this has been beaten to death a month or two ago and subaru announced they were having no issues and they would be mortified if that split were to take place...... |

Does anyone know where I could get a shirt like the one he is wearing in the video?

The best part is tetsuya saying "please wait, please be patient..."

I sure hope that one of the new 'sports' platforms he talks about is not the iM concept they just announced...

Don't buy it in june, better wait for the 2016 at that point! Or better wait for the power bump in 2017! Or better wait for the 2017 power bump kinks to be ironed out and get the much reliable 2018!
