Flush USB Cigarette Adapter

Anyone ever manage to find a USB Adapter for the cigarette lighter near the cup holders that sits perfectly flush? or has a solution for that?

azian_advanced 11-10-2014 09:21 AM

i bought one at the airport in LAX that was just short enough to have a usb cable plugged into it and still manage to have the cup holders in the most-forward location. unfortunately, the thing broke on me and have yet to find another.

I'll give the Aluratek one a try. I ordered a Scosche (http://www.scosche.com/usb-car-charger-dual-port) but unfortunately sticks out about a cm. With a USB cable plugged in you can't have the cup holders in the forward position.

Don't buy the flush ones, the electronics inside are crap they will break in a few weeks. My gf tried a 10 bucks one from Winners and also a 3 bucks one from the dollar store. Same crap.

There's another 12V inside the glovebox, why not run a quality adapter from there with a longer cable? I've seen the Sony OEM one for $9.99 at the Sony Store on clearance. The Samsung OEM one is like $20. :iono:

I use a Griffin PowerJolt Dual. Two ports at 1amp each, sits almost flush, you can't close the cap with it in place but it has to stick out otherwise you'd never get it out. Around 9 USD on Amazon US. Looks to be around 20 CAD on Amazon CA.

Why not just use sub port under the HVAC?

It's in the glovebox on the 2013's not under the HVAC controls.

HeadBanger 11-15-2014 10:16 PM

Why the hell would they put a USB port in the glovebox? lol

I honesty wish mine was in the glove box. Cleaner look when in use. And I can control my phone/ iPod from the head unit.

But anyway back on topic I have the same Griffith one posted above I bought it on eBay a few years back.

That's the one complaint I have the FR-S, the USB port isn't in the glove box where I could just hook up an iPod and be done with it. In the end I had a black iPod Classic so you can't really see it when its in the cubby hole in the dash so I just leave it there.

I do have a flush(ish) fit USB plug for the middle console. I use a right-angle USB adapter with it, and it works fine.

Exactly what others have said. I throw my iPod in there and it never leaves. No wires, nice and clean.

I've been looking into custom options for doing something like this but making the compartment to the left larger ( since the iPhone 6 gets stuck in there)and moving the usb/Aux to the glove box. I'll probably do it once I have some extra money laying around since it's going to be purely cosmetic and pricey it's low on my to do list.

I just wish the Canadian versions deleted the hole for the Aux/USB port from the US version under the HVAC.... If it didn't have that, my S3 might actually fit that little slot there...
