Toyota FT-86 transmission is this it?
3 Attachment(s)
I've been holding this pic for few days now, i wanted to authenticate before posting if its real or BS but cant find anything on it so I'll post maybe someone can shine a truth on it. Got it from a person in facebook who send me a msg after giving a like vote on my ae86, then he send me a PM telling me that I have a nice trueno & , I say thanks and asked him if he has one also? He replied no in his country its rare but his planning to get the FT86 when it goes on sale, he asked me if I'm planning to get the FT86? I replied yes cant wait, he replied I worked on the FT86 well just the drivetrain. At this point i was calling BS so he send me pics of a transmission that has a FT86 writen on it, I say any person can write a FT86 on a transmission so i started looking for a similar look or type of a tranny but came short. So if anyone can authenticate this, but im about to think its real.

I have no idea about this tranny, but Aisin Ai means the tranny is MT. Aisin Ai is probably working with Toyota R&D in Japan. I also wonder if anyone can identify this transmission. Anyway, thank 4agze.

They need to revive "Unsolved Mysteries" for this thread. Wow! That's very coincidental if it's true.
|
My last PM to him was can you tell me the gear ration w/ the final gear thats what i really care about, i even invited him to join the forum maybe share what he knows.
|
If what he said was true I doubt he'll enlighten us because I'm sure it would result in him losing his job. He's probably done enough to lose it anyway with that picture.

If you want some guesses on the gear ratios, probably close to S2k specs. A tall first gear of 3.1xx(like a 5spd) with close ratios all the way to 6th with .8xx. The Mazda variants of the Aisin AZ6 have 3.76-3.84 first gears. Unless he worked specifically on the gearing he might not know the ratios for the transmission or the final axle gearing. Just a thought but I wouldn't want to see him get fired for sharing info. And :coolpics: |
I'm skeptic, I don't buy it, but if it really is, Kudos to both of you and it makes me happy that the FT-86 is progressing and likely closer than we think.
|
You can at least tell its RWD only. I'm not a subaru guy, so if someone could try to take a better look at the bell housing and see if its somewhat close to the pattern for a boxer engine, then well have RWD + boxer = :D hehe
|
that project number tag looks like its withering away? i would assume it would still be sticking on there nicely
|
It will have the new Gen boxer motor so bell housing mite be different? Mind you it maybe the same as the EZ36 and diesel.
They are slowly changing stuff so all the gear boxes etc that used to fit into all of the EJ stuff wont be able to fit. Like the New 6 speed that is based on the 5speed fitted in the new shape legacys. They have changed the mounts. Will not fit into the older models. The Impreza STI still runs the Bullet proof 6 Speed in it that can still be fitted to different models. |
the Bell housing is likely to be slightly different. It has the shape similar to the top of Subaru's bell housings, but the bottom is missing the awd bits that are right at the front of the tranny.
Com to think about it, the output in the rear seems to be high up relative to the top of the bell housing, like it would be for an engine that is mounted very low in the chassis. |
RWD Only = Check
looks like its made for low mounted engine = check Aisin Manual Trans = CHECK hmm, I'm almost sold, but I like where this is going so far, now only if we could get some pictures of our beloved's underbody for comparison |
so do we know its going to be a 6 speed yet? Not that i would assume otherwise but i just watched a "grand turismo" video and he got to 6th and it was the 1st ive seen or heard anything.

The concept car has a 6 speed shift knob on it.. That tranny has the starter motor so straight up on top of it that I doubt that could have any inline engine on it, the block would need to have a big hole for the starter. Anyways, I'm hoping for a proper paddle gearbox, though LF-A makes me worry about it been rubbish if made by Toyota :bonk:
|
Shift with a clutch or not at all :burnrubber:
(I know that some dual clutch autos are faster than manuals, that's not the point) and now to await the comeback lol :paddle: |

Though if it even comes with a paddle gear option I'm happy to buy a manual one if it isn't any good :burnrubber: I haven't really even considered buying any new car (daily drivers are different in my mind, and by new I mean newer than the original hachi roku) and as this gets me so excited that I must have one, I wan't to get something more out of the 30 years automotive development than just design.. |
^ You've driven an LFA have you? I'm sure you've got pics to prove that? Were you driving it in sport mode? Because in sport mode, the gear changes are COMPLETELY up to the driver, you could potentially bouce the engine off the rev limiter for half a minute and nothing else would happen.

Actually you're right, I haven't.. I had to read it through a few times before realising I was thinking about the IS-F and writing down LF-A, sorry, my bad. And the test drive was a bit short but during that time my co-pilot didn't find such a mode that would have allowed such total control of gear changes. Hadn't read about the change-time comparisons that much before because the BMW boxes are "guick-enough" for me, though when buying a car for myself I would wan't the guicker one. Well I guess we'll see what they come up with in about a year.. |

The LFA's gearbox is pretty damn good, just not as good as a dual clutch. Far better that ferrari's or lamborghini's sequential transmission in fact. |

So other words from that guy yet?

Won't write no more offtopic, I promise.. |
we honestly don't care *too* much about on / off topic conversations. We argue for fun on here while we wait for something else to gossip about. Try not to take it personally, there are a few of us who orgasm at the thought of the LF-A (changing pants.. brb). So we'll defend it :P
I'm not saying its free of faults, but considering what it does and how it does it... (changing pants again) |

I'm not sure if the IS-F has one of those modes... Was it by any chance happening when you were downshifting? Were you maybe downshifting a little too early, which would make the car go over the redline? (Which the ECU would not let you do), or was it just in normal driving conditions, far below the redline? |

LF-A also make burritos when you want it too...they taste so god damn delicious

I heard it deploys a supermodel that gives blow jobs on demand as well.

Last I checked 3.4 is under 3.6 no? N00b :P
3.4 is on warm days at sea level. |
I'm not an expert on Subaru engines, but I did some research regarding this box and noticed that the right side of that box doesn't have bolts at all going to the engine block, as where the EJ series seems to have 2 bolts on the right side.. I guess this means that the new engine is going to be based on the new FB engine, although I couldn't find pics showing it's holes for connecting the transmission. And at least I couldn't find other possible engines from Subaru.
Here's a video for example showing the EJ gearbox connection looks all different on the right side.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJYvE-hZUyk |

I'm happy if its RWD only- but wouldnt subaru want their varient to be 4WD? Perhaps there will be 2 different transmissions for the vehicle, but it seems unlikely if they're trying to keep the costs down. I also think 6-speed is a given. |
