DIY - Quik Latch Mini install(front bumper)
Just finished this install at 6:30am in the morning..
Prep work: Jack up car, remove wheels if necessary, remove weather stripping under the hood, remove screws/clips. Remove screws/clips under the bumper. Remove screws/clips in the wheel arch. All this should be in a previous DIY on this forum Mask off bumper and fender. Use the small black plastic clip as your mounting point. You want to use the location where the silver phillips self tapper is mounted. Remove the screw. Use a 6.5mm drill and install the threaded part of the QLM. Mark a line in marker directly above where the mounting point is. Also mark off on the bumper area. Drill a pilot hole to see where the little round point is on the QLM. Try to center it, once you have found the center, trace a circle using the button part of the QLM. Use a dremel to remove the excess plastic to fit the QLM button. The rest of the install should be pretty easy. The tricky part for me was trying to find a decent mounting point for the bolt. http://i57.tinypic.com/x0xw9e.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/99g9if.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/2evgb61.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/2le0z8k.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/55h37q.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/5tujo4.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/23j1phe.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/161mgi9.jpg As you can see from the above pics, the front of my bumper now isn't sagging. |
By far of the coolest DIY so far! Great addition to the forum!

Where did you buy the part?
@stevo_12v can you give us a close up picture of the stud/stem (the part that is fastened to the black bracket below the fender) with the bumper off?

Eyebrows?
What is the purpose of the black plastic "eyebrows?" Do you have a pix of your rig that shows this mod from the front?
Re: Quick Latch... very cool! Ditto on parts list, etc. |

anyone install this for the bottom and top front bumper? for easy removal and install
Did you remove the black plastic piece too?
I am confused about all the pop clips and screws that hold the bumper to the car. Are all those removed and the only thing holding the bumper is the Quik Latch?

what diameter do i get?
bump same question^^
the stainless is $50 per latch!? plus you gotta buy the mounting buckets for each one @ $12/pc!?
Has anyone else tried this DIY? Does it work over time and prevent the bumper gap, with only one Quik Latch Mini on each side in that location?

I just made another DIY using 1 latch on each side just in a more forward location, right where the gap happens. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95624 |

long shot here, but bump for OP to update pics?
Do these actually replace the need for most / all of the pop clips? It'd be great to only have these and a couple screws to remove the bumper.
Are there any safeguards preventing some random person from stealing your bumpers?
