For those with Nameless axelback..
I really like the sound of the nameless axel back and have been contemplating getting it alot lately(over a cheaper and quicker to arrive Invidia N1 that's my other choice) I'll be pretty much doing my exhaust one piece at a time to gauge what I want sound like in the end, so my question is for those running the nameless axel back what front pipe, down pipe etc are you running? I know I want to replace both the front pipe and axel back pretty close together then probably goto header after that. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated coming from driving trucks for the past 5-6 years with stock everything, lol I'm a little lost.
Btw sorry for dragging this post out.. I'm tired and not quite all there right now. |
I personally am a big fan of Nameless's downpipe that replaces both the front pipe and overpipe but there are many good options here.

I read a bunch of reviews from their site and it seems alot of people commented that their cat/resonator pipe was a must for no drone. But I was actually thinking of getting something without all that for 2 reasons I don't live where care are checked for cats and was thinking its be a lil louder with straight through type like the Invidia one |
You are doing this backwards.

I have the 2.5" AB with a catless and unresonated invidia front pipe. Here's a quick video of me just revving. It sounds great so far.

I am running the nameless axel back exhaust.. Stock everything else.
Sounds great as it is by itself.. No need to change anything.. Not much benefit to changing anything else unless you are planning FI.. Quote:

I have the 2.5" nameless axleback (5" mufflers) with the 2.5" catted OP/DP with helmholtz resonator. It is absolutely perfect this way. If you plan on getting a header, go with this option. It is already quite loud without a header.
Do not say that you don't want a cat and a resonator just because you can. These two items are critical to sound level and what you actually get out of the exhaust note. I believe you should have at least one cat in your system. When you go to a header, it will probably be catless. Having one cat will reduce the raspy exhaust note you get from simply having straight pipes. It will also keep the back of your car clean (going catless will cause for very dirty exhaust gases that will make the back of your car look like ass). A resonator will eliminate drone. If you go on long road trips or even just a cruise down the highway for an hour, you will want to eliminate drone. |

As far as resonators go, there's a difference between a loud exhaust and a exhaust that drones. A front pipe with resonator will still be plenty loud when you get on it, but it will prevent it from being ear bleeding in the cabin at 2,000RPM when cruising. |

^^^ not sure what happened, I got the multi quote button but it seems it didn't work.. |
My JDL UEL, JDL Overpipe, Invidia Catted FP, and Invidia N1 is about as loud as I can get it without having any rasp. I was really surprised how deep the sound is with it. It's close to a WRX. It's not too bad if you drive regularly and don't step on it. I've gotten so used to the N1. When you floor it though.... people will know and so will you.
My Nameless 3" system was a rasp machine. The loudness didn't bother me, but man was it raspy. They also get extremely defensive when I said it was raspy and sounded like crap, to the point of PM'ing me asking me to stop. Sorry if I spread a real life experience of a product that sounds like shit, but I feel like the public should know about it. |

BTW it does sound badass the way it is now!! Honestly the biggest thing that puts the invidia n1 behind nameless for me are the tips..I like the double walled tips a lot better imo. Some people have said the n1 is to common, but I could care less about that, I've only even seen like 3 others in a twins in person since they have come out |
I have the rev works header and nameless axelback and I would go with a header next to gauge noise that is the next part thats going to change volume most.....I will tell you catless header with nameless axelback puts off a pretty good amount of sound.

Like @s2d4 implied, headers will make a bigger and more noticeable difference than the axle-back. I understand that you want the more immediate solution by going with the cheaper, easy to install, no-tune required axleback, but in my opinion the headers are where you should start.
A nice set of headers will not only make your car louder, but they'll also help get rid of that pesky torque dip ;) You'd be surprised how great headers sound with the stock muffler too. Especially when you really let it rip. One issue with the stock US-Spec muffler though is that the tail pipes are so tiny and they look lame, but the car will still sound awesome. If you were on a tight budget and could only afford one big purchase then I would highly recommend getting some headers, and then to improve the looks you could get aftermarket exhaust tips. If I could do it again I would have started off with the headers. Instead I started off with the 2.5" Nameless Axleback w/ 5" muffler and the Nameless downpipe w/ high flow cat & resonator... and I absolutely loved it. If you are going to keep everything else stock then this is a great combo. Finally the car had the right sound to go along with its good looks. But then I decided to go FI, and so I got some race headers that were recommended by the tuner. Being catless race headers they were extremely loud & raspy when I first installed them. So much so that the very next day I put the stock muffler back on. The stock muffler helped a lot, but the exhaust was still raspy. After about a month the rasp and loudness died down a little bit so I put my Nameless axleback on again. Mainly because I missed how good they made the car look  Since then I updated my tune for my supercharger and the update actually got rid of a lot of rasp. It's still there but not as much as before. On the street, if I accelerate slowly then I can avoid the rasp and the exhaust sounds pretty good. When driving slow the car is still loud and it gets a lot of good looks, but if I accelerate normally or if I am in too high a gear then the car will sound like a really loud fart can and people will look at me like I'm a douche. Except for E46 BMWs and Mustangs. Those guys will actually want to race me for some reason :iono: |
Thanks, I've seen vids and comments saying that the nameless was to loud with header and all, the vids I've seen it was just to damn raspy,I don't mind loud but that much rasp I couldn't deal with. Another thing that sorta bothers me about getting a header is that the closest reliable shop(so I'm told) to tune it is 3 hrs away from me, which is just a inconvenience more than anything I guess, lol . The more I here about the nameless being raspy with a header the more I lean towards the n1... The headers I like most are the revworks and JDL uel just fyi

Keep in mind that even with the stock mufflers my race headers were still very raspy. The stock muffler helped mute the loudness but it didn't help much in the way of rasp. That's why I'm of the opinion that you should start with a good set of headers first. Once you find some headers that you like I wouldn't be surprised if you decide not to change anything else on your exhaust. I would recommend that you stay away from race headers though. They sound cool at WOT and when racing, but can sound terrible when trying to drive normally :( I too was eyeing the revworks and jdl headers. I was prepared to purchase the JDLs but was too impatient to wait for the build and decided to go with the race headers instead, because they were supposedly already available (not true, had to wait for them to be built). I really regret not going with the JDL headers. If you are looking for a bump in hp & torque and want a loud exhaust with a distinct note, then headers are the way to start. If you're afraid of going too loud and aren't looking for an increase in performance then I would recommend that you stay away from headers. |
I'll get some vids once my JDL UEL arrives but from what I've heard the combo of that + Nameless downpipe and Axleback work fairly well. Here's a video I found of just that, and what my setup will be in a couple weeks. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHRMmWSMEyo"]2013 BRZ with UEL Headers - YouTube[/ame]
