Tanabe Concept G vs. HKS Hi-Power (Single Exit)

Ello maties...

I'm looking at these two exhausts currently as my next purchase. I don't think a lot of people own these yet, as most seem to go with a tomei if they're going single.

Any thoughts...found some videos & threads. I was originally going to go with a Q300, then I saw that it weighed heavier than stock & that really turned me off. So I just said screw it & go lighter.

Looking for a deeper exhaust note, I can tolerate some drone. I do like a little bit of angle on the muffler tip. My other concern was would there be any ground clearance issues with either setup. Help me decide :S Hopefully we can get some owners on this topic as I haven't seen many threads on these exhausts. They seem to be a good quality mid-level single exhaust.

I'm open to suggestions but I think I prefer the looks of the single tip exhaust. As far as budget trying to stay under 800 or so. Need to save money for suspension.

Plxdjake89 08-14-2014 01:25 AM

I bought the tomei 60R, it sounded good up until I upgraded my headers. Don't get me wrong, the sound was actually pretty awesome.

Well anyway. I picked up an extra cat back off a member here, cut off the resonator from the mid pipe and had it welded up together coming out of the passenger side.

It's a bolt on axle back , and it sounds really good for what it is. But I wanted something more since I was so used to the tomei.

I ended up ordering the nameless performance muffled track pipe with 5" mufflers. I haven't received it yet, but I'm almost positive that this is the best option that's out there as far as a single exhaust set up.

Check it out, you might like it and it won't cost you an arm and a leg.

As soon as I get it I'll post something up, there is a complete lack of videos for this piece. I'll have it paired up to some open flash headers with stock op/fp/mp, and possibly the nameless performance resonated op/fp combo (catless) it's currently off my car because I'm waiting to see how it will sound as is.

So you're pairing a makeshift axleback with the track pipe?

I feel like it'll be one of the louder setups since you have headers too. Regardless post the results! I'm interested :D. What Catback did you use?

I still wanna know if anyone has either one of these exhausts, I mean there has to be somebody haha. I mean come on :p.

You may also want to check out Touge Factory's single exit exhaust setups. They are a really good shop in the Chicago area. http://www.tf-works.com/tf-cat-back-...-s-subaru-brz/

They look really good and sound pretty great too. I will contact the guy I know who works there to see if I can get any video clips so you can hear it. Or I will take a video/pictures this weekend at a meet.

For me it's between the HKS Hi-Power, Tomei 60s, and the TF turned down tip.

Interesting. See if you can get a video. Why did you rule out the Tanabe?

The other thing I wasn't sure about but from pictures it looks like you get better ground clearance if the exhaust exits on the drivers side. When an exhaust exits on passenger side it looks like it has to take a weird path and is much lower to the ground. Can anyone confirm this?

Shark_Bait88 08-14-2014 11:06 AM

I just didn't like the sound of the Tanabe as much. I prefer the sound of the HKS between those two. I really like the Tomei (especially the weight savings), but That's pretty much $400 towards an EL header, so it would make more sense to spend around $500-600 on the exhaust. (working on getting a video of the exhaust)

No. I made a single exit bolt on axle back with a resonator I cut out from a stock mid pipe that exits out of the passenger side.

So it goes OFH>stock OP>stock FP>stock MP>Custom Single exit resonated AB

I'll post up a recent vid I took over the weekend, gimme a sec

Plxdjake89 08-14-2014 11:46 AM

It sounds extremely clean in person. I love it, but like I said, I'm waiting on my 5" nameless muffled track pipe. The stock mid pipe works just fine and the nameless track pipe is perfect for weight savings at the same time. Honestly go to their website and check it out.

Personally I would get the Tanabe if I was going to single exit. But I love my dual canister setup too much to switch!

finch1750 08-14-2014 01:38 PM

Well OP, the Tanabe has me rethinking single exit over dual. Thats how nice that soudns IMO.

akahenry 08-14-2014 04:51 PM

For some reason, I'm getting tired of my dual exhaust set up. I've been looking into the Tomei type 80 for a long while now (even before I got my dual exhaust) and am really to biting the bullet and buying the damn peace of metal but many third parties say that it drones like crazy, especially with a catless header. I just might go with the Nameless track pipe with 5" mufflers, when the aforementioned user (too lazy to scroll up and type your name sorry lol) receives his. By the way, that custom axleback sounds really fucking good with your OFH.

underpowered 08-17-2014 09:04 PM

I hope somebody posts more video of these exhausts soon. I have been eyeing both of them for a few months now trying to decide which one to get. I don't want a loud exhaust but I would like to go to a single.

*KID* 08-17-2014 10:02 PM

I was about to pull the trigger on getting the tanabe. Sounds nice but idk what to get. Either q300, t1r, tanabe, or custom center exit

underpowered 08-17-2014 10:33 PM

I have also looked at the t1r single but figured it was loud based on the posts I found about it.

Bump for guinea pigs lol.

I might pull the trigger on a Tanabe soon. #singlelife lol. The t1r also looks nice I assume it's more in the price range of the Tomei.

It's priced about $300-400 more than the Tomei. T1R makes some awesome exhausts though.

Eww. For a dd exhaust I can't justify spending that much when the unspent cash can be used on my oft/ofh/Springs etc :p. Which are relatively cheap and effective mods.

Yeah. I'd originally wanted the Tomei, but going to go for the HKS or Tanabe now to save money. That's $400 towards a lot of other mods that will do way more for me.

Make sure to post if you decide before I do lol! I'm thinking about picking one of the two sometime this month.

Well, I autocrossed my car for the first time this weekend. Exhaust has now been bumped down in importance on my list of mods. Next thing is going to be a strut bar and then new wheels and stickier rubber in the spring.

Just ordered my Tanabe exhaust today. Ill post up videos as soon as it gets installed and mated to the MOTIV HFC and OP

Good man im really leaning towards the tanabe. I dig the sound, I just want to see how it looks in person... I don't want a ricey look lol.

I'll probably be picking it up soon as well.

underpowered 08-29-2014 10:26 PM

I can't wait to see the vid I am still trying to decide between the two.

Which one are you leaning more towards? Do you have any concerns?

underpowered 08-30-2014 09:47 PM

I am leaning towards the tanabe because I don't want a loud exhaust.

It will prolly be till I see what's going to happen with my car. Started knocking yesterday. I was excited to throw it on

Nobody's gonna give that nameless muffled track pipe a chance?

Mine is supposed to come in either tomorrow or Wednesday, I'll post some videos then. Honestly, save yourself $450+ and check that thing out!

I actually have mine estimated for Friday delivery. What was the setup on that video you posted earlier in the thread?

Oh, idk why but I thought that was with the nameless track pipe. Sounded really good though IMO. Be sure to post up that video when you get the track pipe though cause I'm gonna have the same setup :D

No worries, I'll make sure to post them up.

I seriously can't wait til I get it, I'm almost 100% sure this is the best single exit exhaust option you can buy for the money:thumbup:

I agree 100%. I'm thinking about getting a catless front pipe too, just don't know if its gonna make it raspy, so your video should give me an idea, hopefully.

Well I also their 2.5 catless/resonated op/fp. I'm trying to sell it because I know for sure, it's gonna be loud as hell with it on.

Depending how it sound with the stock pieces, I might see what's up with the nameless op/fp combo, but of course, I'm still waiting for mine to come in.

I'll try to swap all the pieces to get vids

If it's loud which I'm guessing it will be I wouldn't be interested.

But let's hear it when you get it on lol. Tanabe is a quiet 93db perfect dd exhaust

I still have to wait til mid-late September for the OFH. I'm just curious as to how its gonna sound with headers, front pipe, and the nameless muffled track pipe. If i put up a video its just gonna be of the track pipe.

That's fine I'm in cali lol I need to keep my cats. I may eventually do headers though.

I was going to run a Catback for a while.

Edit:
I looked up some vids and it sounds pretty loud, then I checked the reviews and they said it was loud. With headers and uncatted front pipe I'd imagine that setup is barely gonna be streetable. Just a thought... I do like the looks of it tho. It ain't called a track pipe for nothing lol.

Plxdjake89 09-04-2014 12:14 AM

So, I received my nameless muffled track pipe and let me tell you I'm in love <3 lol anyway.

I have the following

Oft OTS 2.0 beta uel 91
Ofh
K&N drop in filter
Perrin light weight crank pulley
Stock overpipe
Stock front pipe
Stock mid pipe
Nameless performance 5" muffled track pipe

Honestly, save yourself a ton of money and go this route. If you want a different tone on top of this, go to a shop and have them make you a factory fit mid pipe with a decent resonator.

Enjoy! I'll post more vids as I go

Did you end up getting the tip or is it a straight pipe I can't tell. Could you take some pics from different angles?

Any drone? Is it loud?

Caught my interest but need more info lol.
