Ordered JDM items... No Tracking # Yet?
Hey All:
I recently purchased some JDM items from Japanparts.com last Monday. It's been a week and I haven't received a tracking number yet. Anyone have any idea or a clue as to how long it takes to get a tracking number ? Edit: FYI: They did take the money out of my account. |
Why don't you contact them and find out?
|
I would hope you know what you ordered.
They do not stock anything, almost everything they sell is ordered from a local distributor or dealer. Lead time could be anywhere from 3-28 days. "Estimated delivery time by EMS/Courier 14-21 days" only means they expect this item to be in stock within a week to 10 days, and shipping is upwards of 2 weeks. What was the expected lead time on their site for the part? -alex |

So.... what would 10-15 days imply in this case if 5 days have already passed? It sounds like this is something normal and to be expected? |

15-5=10? :) Seriously though ya they're typically slow. But again the delivery time is usually how long till "they" get them so therefore a month likely to you tops. |
Yes it's normal. I usually get to around 5-8 days before I get a follow up email on tracking numbers.
It's also normal to ask them what the status is of your order. -alex |
Shipping parts from Japan isn't as expensive or take as long as some distributors claim.
You might want to call them to confirm. |

Well, they obviously have not received the item then. I would not order from them unless you are patient, but they are good with letting you know when something goes in transit. Email them.
|
Just contact them and ask for an estimated shipping and delivery date.
|
Update: Sent a follow up e-mail earlier today. It's currently 3PM in Japan... still no response.
|
Honestly I wouldn't be too worried as its only been 5 days, I know other things can come into play port things etc. Parts from japan usually take a decent amount of time for some reason or another.
Also curious to see what this secret part is ;) |

Example of my STi fender garnish order (took 6+ weeks to ship): Ordered 12/22/13 Emailed 1/6/14 for status 1/7 reply was that it would ship in February due to one item being on backorder 1/9 reply was that the fender piece was on backorder 2/4 I emailed for status 2/5 reply was that they were waiting for the parts, "please await for a while" 2/5 follow up was that ETA is 1-2 weeks 2/10 item shipped I've ordered 6 times from them, the shortest timeframe they've shipped is around 6 days. -alex |

If it is a less popular item or a more obscure part, it is likely the at they do not keep the item stocked or on-hand, and instead order it directly from the company when you order it through them. When they receive it, then they forward it to you along with any other items you've placed in that order. I would just contact them and ask for an update if it is concerning you, but I've placed 3 - 4 orders with them in the last three months, and I've always received my order in a timely manner. I don't think you need to be worried about them scamming you, or anything of that sort. |
You will also likely be hit with import fees when ordering from JapanParts (not always, but I've seen it happen often enough). There are many companies that deal in mostly JDM and have all your bases covered (hint hint ;) )
|
Update: They sent me the Tracking Number. It was sent out today. I guess it takes 7 days to process? :iono: I guess for future references for people who have this issue, it can take up to 7 Days to process your request?

Sent via FedEx/other courier, always import fees + duties. Quote:
Imaging you owning an e-commerce site and you sell everything from your local dealer. They have to order parts to the manufacturer. Many sites we shop from are part-time businesses. -alex |

Also, I've been hit with fees by EMS before -- not often, but I've seen it happen (that's why I'm sure you wrote "almost no"). Most of the time it goes through but it's a possibility. Thank you to @N1rve for sharing his experience though. This is important for other people in making a future decision! |
I ordered through Japan parts about half a year ago, and it took about two weeks for me to get a tracking #. I'd say it's the norm to wait a while, I ordered a few things from different sites based in Japan and the wait was the same as well.
And as far as import fees, so far with japanparts I wasn't hit with any, from other stores though I've been hit with some fees. (For figures, not parts) |
