Well, part of it is here.. (The rest has arrived!)

Got the shift knob I wanted. Just need the rest of the car to arrive so I can install it onto the knob. :D

(My Flickr Site)

It's a WC Lathe Werks 2" copolymer sphere with two small grooves at the base for some tactile feedback. These are excellent shift knobs and this one is the 4th I've purchased. He will also do etching (gear pattern, or custom) and will do custom designs as well.

I took some crappy installed pics. The sun was fighting me and my phone had trouble dealing with it.

I love it. It really fits the interior more, IMO. And as with every WC knob I've bought, it feels great.

Looks good! I'm more partial to the "teardrop" and GF4 style he has on his website.

Jayde 05-23-2012 07:18 PM

Been looking at these shift knobs for years. Now that I'll have a nice car, I might get one for it! :D

86'd 05-23-2012 07:36 PM

I've never heard about that copolymer stuff. It looks cool.

I've always wanted a Ti knob, but I don't want to freeze in the cold or burn my hand in the heat.

Hrmmm...

blu_ 05-23-2012 07:39 PM

I think Im just staying stock bling wise for a while. Although Im sure I will hate the tacky shift and brake boots.

Hopefully jpmcoachworks does something for those.

It's really good. Even though it's black it doesn't get as hot as a metal shift knob. The texture is a soft touch even though it's a hard plastic, and even after many miles of driving it just gets smoother.

I like the sphere because my hand travels from one side of the shifter to the other as I go through the gears and the simple sphere makes the transitions smoother and more comfortable no matter how I grip it.

I definitely change the shift knob for comfort, not bling. But different people like different things.

Subie 05-23-2012 08:13 PM

The prices on the WC Lathe Werks website look much better than the ripoff ones at TWM.

blu_ 05-23-2012 08:18 PM

I didnt even like my weighted twm knob on my STi. I switched it for a piston one from WC lathe works, which really grew on me.

Im for a bit of both for shift knobs

86design 05-23-2012 11:16 PM

what size does the BRZ take for the shift knob? i know there's certain ones that can and can not fit...

ngabdala 05-24-2012 12:05 AM

LMAO it's so funny how we already have stuff for our cars and they aren't here yet. I ordered a license plate relocater, 6" variable speed polisher, wash mitts and polishes. All of these are in the mail. Oh and a sweet long lasting car freshener.

I'm thinking about the knob too but I want to see what my feelings are towards a new knob, short throw, shifter bushings after driving my BRZ for a couple thousand miles.

ngabdala 05-24-2012 12:06 AM

Right. Why am I going to change my shift knob for bling if it's under my hand. Also, I don't want anyone else riding in my car with me because the extra weight will affect the cars performance

I got a titanium (real from japan) shift knob on my 350Z roadster and damn I love it. Had it for about 2 years, just park in a garage and your hand will never burn up in the summer..lol!

Unfortunately I park outside at work. :(

I used to put a wrist band on mine so the shift pattern wouldn't be branded on my palm. But it'd still be a little hot.

I might give this one a chance because its the first I've seen that is weighted, good for temperature and it looks clean.

Copolymer is kind of a slightly lower grade Delrin. Short for acetyl copolymer (we use stuff with the trade name Acetron at work). Delrin is the trade name for acetyl mono (or homo? Serious) polymer. Stronger and more chemical resistant. Naturally it's just white nice to machine plastic.

RiskyTrousers 05-24-2012 03:33 AM

So how would this compare to something like this?

Made of Derlin and is only $40.

I believe the threads are the same as other Subarus. I'll try to remember to ee if this one will fit my STI.

However, the big issue is the reverse lockout ring. If you look at the last picture, you'll see that the threads are recessed into the knob with a wide inset. The reverse lockout ring pulls up into the recess when you want to shift into reverse. If a replacement knob extends below he threads and doesn't have that you won't be able to put your car in reverse.

If the BRZ uses Subaru threads and not Toyota threads this could work. But does it have a brass insert to keep the threads from pulling out? And how will it age?

I like to stick with stuff I have confidence in.

The rest of it has arrived! Because it's Memorial day there are no techs to do the PDI, but I'm going to go take a peek at it today. I hope to drive it home tomorrow! WOOT!

I was so worried when the dealership across town got theirs last week and then someone in Pittsburg got one also.

Draco-REX 05-28-2012 05:49 PM

A couple teaser photos. It hasn't been PDI'd or cleaned yet. But even dirty, it looked SO good in black!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8023/7...969d39f5_c.jpg
The white thing on the bumper is a note taped in place that says DO NOT DRILL!

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7089/7...83d35e57_c.jpg

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to sleep tonight.

It felt so good to sit in. The clutch is a bit light for my taste, but we'll see what it's like once broken in.

ESBjiujitsu 05-28-2012 05:50 PM

very awesome congrats on the knob and the car!!!!!

djdnz 05-28-2012 06:44 PM

Let's hear what you think when you get it :)

I will. I want to do a journal thread once I have it in hand.

The guys at the dealership stayed a little late tonight and we put all the numbers together. I don't see any issues, so I should be driving it home after work tomorrow!

Now, do I put the shift knob on before I leave the dealership, or when I get home? :D

dsgerbc 05-28-2012 08:57 PM

^before, of course.

.

thank you...and I believe some one here said it fits the STI but the threads on the BRZ is longer where it only goes half way...is that true?

86design 05-28-2012 10:50 PM

wow that black looks really good!!! makes me re think about my color...lol

Filipino Royale 05-28-2012 10:58 PM

Funny, I have the same idea, but what I bought was new set of rims. Lol.

Congrats with the car!!!

DGM is a real close 2nd for me. When I saw DGM in person I wavered a little on black since it looked so good and would be easier to keep clean.

But I just love black cars.

Draco-REX 05-28-2012 11:05 PM

Ok, the BRZ knob appears to be the same as the STI knob. Screwing the BRZ knob on the STI shift lever worked fine, including the reverse lockout. They appear to be interchangeable.

Partial Stall 05-29-2012 12:00 AM

Really like the black color. The car looks simply awesome. Congrats to you! Oh and the shift knob looks like it will glide nicely.

Good luck sleeping tonight :)

Hopefully will have my WRB MT this week!

Added installed pics to the first post. I'll try to get better ones tonight.

houseofsuffering 05-30-2012 03:58 PM

Can you take a peek under the front bumper and see if there are already holes to install the Sti front lip. My old Sti limited had the holes pre-molded in the bumper and was wondering if it was the same on the BRZ. I was hopping the holes were already there.

Dave-ROR 05-30-2012 04:02 PM

I need to figure out a new shift knob also. I have never replaced a shift knob in my cars before but the way the stock one is stitched in four lines just annoys me. I feel the stitching in every friggen shift.

I'll try to remember to take a look. I've got three rides scheduled tonight and two meets this weekend. It's busy being a BRZ owner!

I do not hesitate to recommend the WC Lathe Werks knobs. He does custom work if you don't find a style that you like.

I'm going to try to find one similar to my ITR one.. (the metal 00/01 ITR knob). I'm sure replicas are made so it should be easy enough to find I just like the shape of it and the car is garaged at work so the burning of my hand part doesn't really happen to me..

He can do that shape in metal no problem. Send him an email with a photo.

Better interior shot of the new knob in the OP, btw.

Yes there are.
