MiniVCI and Global Techstream

Anyone messing around with GlobalTechStream and the MiniVCI cable? I've got it all setup and done a few GenericOBDII scans on my older car (Nissan), but haven't had the guts yet to plug it into my brand new under garantee GT86... I've heard the dealer can detect it's been plugged up and break the warranty. Anyone know anything about this?

I use the minivci cable with techstream. I have changed options with it and
Used the diagnostics.
The dealer can't detect you using it unless you modify and save ECM code.
There are several options on the car you can modify. A very useful tool.

I have it. Changed my DRL setting, lock/unlock settings, all the annoying alarm settings. It's the same software THEY use. So...I highly doubt they could void your warranty.

Thanks guys, well I guess I just have to plug it in now and check for myself... I'd like to turn the daylight leds off, I've seen there's an option for this in the repair manual

Yes, the DRLs can be turned off.

jebuwh 05-29-2014 03:34 PM

Does anyone have access to one here in socal? I would love to be able to turn those off.

U can ask your dealer.. Some will do it for free.. I called an asked a local
Dealer here and they wanted 75 dollars to change the options.
So I bought the cable for $30 and DL the software here for free..
Installed on my win7 laptop and made the changes. It also has diagnostic functions and allows you to monitor the system temperatures and other operating specs. Very useful tool.

Exactly why I purchased mine. Some people have even lucky and their dealer did it for free. Mine wanted to charge and say they couldn't turn off certain features due to safety.

phobos512 05-29-2014 05:01 PM

Which cable do you guys recommend?

Harvey 05-29-2014 05:13 PM

Here's the one I've got.... nice thing is that it comes with the drivers and the GTS software, so you're all set to go:

J_kennington 05-29-2014 05:36 PM

I got mine from amazon. Actually came with drivers and the techstream copy for 30 bucks. But...I won't recommend it to anyone, for the simple fact the drivers are for XP. And it was a PITA to work around it to install on W7

In my 86 (not sure if it's JDM or European spec) there is no option to turn off the DRL LEDs in Techstream.

But you can do so manually by pulling out the DRL relay in the fuse box under the hood. DRL will no longer function, but the LED strip will still light up when you have your parking lights or headlights on. Just pop the relay back in if you want it to work again.

DarkCard 05-30-2014 12:54 AM

If only you could turn off the tpms.

Harvey 05-30-2014 05:32 AM

TPMS is an interisting one.... it seems to be a standard in USA FRS and not available at all in GT86 europe, whereas for most other things the european version seems to have more standard equipment (electric fold mirrors, auto headlights, dual A/C, plastic underpanels, trunc trim, .... but is much higher priced, but therefore less noobs with them, so I don't think we'll get the Honda Civic symptom you're on about in the US)

TPMS is required by law in the US on all new light (a.k.a. typical passenger) vehicles sold after 01 September 2007:

It will not work directly on a Mac. From my understanding some have had good luck running a windows VM on a Mac though. But, most cables come with the cracked version of the program anyways. I actually used the "newest" one that's posted here in the forums, and the crack that came with my cable. Then had to force install the drivers(xp drivers on a win7) then edit the registry for it to recognize the cable.

Could you please elaborate on how you edited the registry for it to work on win7? Are you using 64 bit?

If you're on 64-bit follow this:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/genera...-8-64-bit.html

Otherwise the Windows XP drivers seem to work on 32-bit whatever version from what I've read. I'll be giving mine a shot in a few days once my cable comes in (I have a Win 8 32-bit tablet now).

I can send you the file that will automatically do it for you when I get home from work tonight. Makes it a lot easier.
All you'll have to do is install everything, then open this file and it will edit it. Then I had to move the drivers into a seperate folder for it to work correctly.

And I was on 64bit OS. So I'm not sure about the 32bit. It may work correctly without having to do the work around

Harvey 05-30-2014 04:36 PM

Yeah, the whole install's a bit of a shamble, but you can get through it and it is worth it!

Sorry for being an idiot but where on this site might i find the mentioned software.:thanks:

Harvey 06-04-2014 04:32 AM

In fact you can download it straight from the toyota web site and the crack came on the CD with the cable.

I plugged it into the car for the first time monday (I parked the car 100 meters from my Toyota Dealer just in case something went wrong!), it's incredible all the information you can see about the car status!

I've not yet taken that much time yet, but I plan to adjust some settings (A/C stuff and DRL, ...).

I also want to log data for typical trips (home->work, work->lunch, ...) just to save them as references for when things start getting strange (you're always happy when something's wrong to know what the values should be when all is OK... however, the manual actually gives "normal" value ranges)
