Handgun hiding spot in brz
I guess this is the best topic to post this in?
I have a 2014 BRZ. I didn't realize when buying it that the glove box didn't lock, so I currently have my handgun in a lockbox under the drive seat that is attached to the bottom of the seat frame by a cable, so it can't be stolen unless bolt-cutters are used. The main issue is that it is 100% inaccessible which defeats the purpose of having it in there. Missouri law requires it must be pretty well concealed if someone were to look inside my car through the windows. Has anyone else found a solution to this? My best thought was getting some sort of holster that hangs down from the steering wheel column, but I've only found these on google: http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server58...0.1280.jpg?c=1 I need it more hidden than that, like FULLY under the steering column so I can't see it, but I could reach underneath and grab it at a moments notice. |
Your worried about someone stealing it so you keep it in a lock box, yet the alternative is a holster clipped under the steering wheel? Why not just put a holster under the seat then?
|
I'm not as worried about someone stealing it, plus if it's down there they probably wouldn't find it anyway.
I'm 6'6" tall so my seat is all the way down, I can't even fit my hand under the seat so it can't go there either. The only way I get the lockbox down there is by sliding the seat forward and putting it down there from behind. It's a decent sized gun too. Medium. Glock 19 gen 4 |
Wow...this is certainly a unique thread
|
Subbed. Maybe have a fabricator make you something like what they did in the Expendables.
|
Not an expert in gun holster/compartment..
but if you are 6-6 and have your seat all the way, why not think about putting it on the passenger side? You probably have a long arm, and you do not have to push passenger seat all the way back either. maybe between passenger seat and center console? right behind the passenger seat? |
how about behind the dash trim on the passenger side?
there's a surprising amount of blank space there. |
If you must feel like you need a side arm with you at all times, why would you ever leave it in a car? Locks will be useless if your car gets stolen.
I have a CCW permit as well btw. |
Are you left-handed or right-handed, and how accessible does it need to be? Something good for a quick draw, or something accessible, but not in a hurry?
|
why would you need a gun in your car?

I will try and get pictures tomorrow but I use a pretty vanilla kydex paddle holster clipped over the lower plastic under the steering column much like in the picture above. Its actually the holster that comes with springfield xdms. It stays there while I'm driving since its very uncomfortable to carry a 5.25 inch barreled firearm in these seats. I then transfer it to my holster for carry when I leave the vehicle or if I'm going somewhere its unlawful to carry I put it between the driverside seat and the door. Not in the door cup holder thingy literally next to the seat. Its deep enough that you cant see it at all with the door closed.

If you dont mind drilling blackhawk serpa holsters come with diffrent attachment mounts and you could mount one on the passanger side of the shifter/center console area. That's where my garage door thingy is Velcrod

I carry everday and the car holsters purpose is its just plain uncomfortable to wear your firearm in these seats. But as far as unauthorized carry locations and needing to store it while going into a school or federal building check out how much room is next to the seat and the doorsill. My xdm5.25 and spare mags fit there.

In response to the questions about why I need it or why I would leave it in the car, like Nelsmar said there are lots of places you legally cannot carry.
Also, I don't need to carry it all the time. I live in a nice area of St. Louis but sometimes I have clients in the bad areas and St. Louis often ranks 2nd on the national list of worse places for violence, murders, and armed criminal action. But overall I would like it to be readily accessible while driving, but not have to lock it up or move it every time I get in and out of the car. |
The best way to hide it is to make people think that it is just a shift knob.

@nelsmar I dont know what you carry or if you're familiar with the term stippling on a polymer pistol but I definitely put some wear marks hitting my steering wheel with my gun when rolling myself out of the car. I'm 5 foot 5 so my seat is slammed foreword. Sometimes the clip on my knife hits the wheel to getting out. Need to be careful of that. Or buy a quick release hub!

Bahaha I keep my gun in my pants where it belongs.
If you are going to get car jacked,by the time you pull it out and aim you have been shot. I am 100% sure that a slow well armed dude is no match for a fast unarmed dude. When there is a thread called "how my gun saved my car" I will sub, until then I will laugh. I just keep my car wired to explode if it starts and I am not in it. BOOM! PS I own plenty of firearms. In a pickle I would call my dog to protect me, she is 10 times faster and can not be used against me. PS PS Rambo called, on a land line of course because he is so damn old!!! If you need a gun in your car, you need more help than a gun can give you. |
Someone missed the point of this thread.

I drilled a spare holster into the side of the center console on the passenger side in my last car. It allowed me to pull with my right hand.

Whats so fucking dangerous in the States that doesnt happen in Canada requiring you to carry an handgun in your car ? What you guys have, like gators and shit ? Mooses are like 3 BRZ x 3 BRZ. Once you'll have Australia's wildlife, I'll allow a rocket launcher; 'till then, stick with slingshots ;)

Can you imagine someday in the future ^^^ this is how we are going to talk about horsepower? Why do you need a 500whp internal combustion engine!? Youre crazy!
Lets keep this on topic and solve the OP s question. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk |
Maybe I missed it but what gun are we talking? Big difference between a hiding a holster for a govt 1911 vs like a glock 26 or something..
|
He said glock19

I'd avoid a lock box altogether, I keep mine in the glovebox, just don't advertise that it is in there.
|
The OP is asking for solutions to hiding his handgun. He's not asking for 101 reasons why to not have one in his car.

A guy asks where he could go to get some crack, most people tell him that he doesn't need it. |

They do it because they can. I would if I could. The reason many can is because the few states that allowed handgun carry had LESS violent crime and other states saw the cash savings from the legal system (police, courts, prisons etc.) and became greedy for money. Over the years many states changed legislation to allow citizen carry and that trend is still going on until all but the few socialist nanny paradise states will allow it. http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps3eb3bee8.gif CERBERUS |
