This evening I installed the Grimmspeed Hood Struts. They say it helps to have a second set of hands, but this was very easily a solo task. Grimmspeed have gone green and no longer provide printed instructions, so you find them online here. What's in the box? A couple of struts, top and bottom brackets, and a bunch of bolts/nuts. Ooh, and a sticker. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7328/1...450c46b3_c.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3714/1...8a114707_c.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2818/1...a9152cca_c.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7336/...d3485334_c.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3772/1...7021aeee_c.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3708/1...e6576730_c.jpg ----------------------------------------------------- 2014-02-22 A local member very kindly installed a hard wire for the Escort 9500ix radar detector. Here's what comes in the bag: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2831/1...4f0e41dc_c.jpg Here's the "before" cable cluster fuck: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3799/1...3f862e44_c.jpg And here's what it looks like when finished (the mute switch is right by the drivers leg, just above the seat bolster): http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2887/1...12e47f24_c.jpg Later I'll replace the poxy suction cups with the $10 3M'd Ebay clip and mount the detector higher so it gets a clear rear window sweep. C'mon Canada Post! ----------------------------------------------------- 2014-03-01 Replaced all interior incandescent bulbs with LED's. https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3719/1...3f8cd39e_c.jpg WARNING: do not use a metal pry to remove the door bulbs. You will short circuit your BIU (Body Integrated Unit). Ask me how I know this. You can also ask me why I'm pissed off that there was no warning anywhere of this possible outcome. I only found out what had happened because the interior door courtesy lights won't turn off (hello battery drain). I Googled it and found this thread a little too bloody late: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21537 ... and another thread from another forum which I can't seem to link here. 2014-03-12 Dealer has replaced the BIU under warranty. I was surprised not to have to pay labour so I bought them a 12 pack of Steamwhistle for their troubles. Big thanks to Centaur for fitting the car in for both visits without appointments (the beer may have helped). Typically, this should be a quick job. I found the Diode Dynamics LED's were sitting loosely and only working intermittently. This OCD guy goes into nerdrage mode and had to strip them out several times before he was satisfied they wouldn't randomly give up on him. I ended up padding the wires to ensure they engaged properly. Fitment of the side markers wasn't perfect and both of the "A" clips disappeared into the cavity inside the front bumper. Much swearing, rattling, bashing and an extended magnet later they were recovered and swapped out for the clips on the OEM side marker. These side markers are also prone to leak and mist up. Acting on the advice of FT86Club I pre-empted doing this when they were full of water and sealed them with silicone adhesive the day before install. Oh my, so you want to record video of ****heads behind you as well? Thanks MassDrop (replaces old DR500GW-HD) :

Great mods so far! Loving every bit of it. Diode Dynamics does a great job. You're welcome for the door vanity LED's haha, I found that out for them.
As for that lake, you are a bold individual! |
where did you get that black button shift ring from?

In for pics with the wheels on

DarkCard is correct, you can get the black shift lever cover from Japanparts.com See here for the ring and other parts. NOTE, this is not the flat black colour you see in my linked image. It's a glossier satin dark metal colour. Kind of like a tinted shade of the silver you already have. If you don't mind the flat black colour you can get the parts from Amayama. These two threads have some good info in them, amongst all the bullshit: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45255 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22352 |

I can't wait myself. Still waiting for a couple of suspension components to come in, and for the snow to stop falling. I'll also cross post them in the wheel thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48897 |
Clearly a ton of time has gone into this build...I love it

Ice on the lake that day was around +24" thick after several weeks below -20degC. That day was the second day of +14degC and there was a fair bit of water on top of the 24" thick ice. I was there with a friend who owns a 2014 FR-S and teaching her how to feel weight transfer into understeer/oversteer and also throttle steering. I was on studded winter tires so I had a much easier time of it compared to her non-studded winters. |

And this is where I want to end up (with MT buttons): Quote:

Very nice build! hope to catch sight of it when I visit Calgary

I installed the BlackVue DR550GW-2CH. It feels like it has a larger barrel mount than the DR500 which I offloaded tonight. this made it exceptionally difficult to hide it in the same location so I had to move it over a touch. Now it sits in plain view and mildly obstructs the sun visor, but at least it clears the damn mirror for every driver's rear view mirror position.
Front from outside https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5102/...7f44651b_c.jpg Rear from inside https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7128/...eed8fb88_c.jpg Rear from outside (yarp, it's invisible) https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5587/...c4bda7af_c.jpg |
Looks awesome. Can't hardly wait to get my supercharger on next weekend.

AvoJDM sent me the wrong steering wheel. This one is more expensive, but also has the transition from leather to slippery shit and I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with a change in texture when the sparks are flying. The wheel diameters match, but the AvoJDM version has more meatier grips. Good god, it's pretty:
https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5277/...f697fab8_c.jpg New Lathe Werks shift knob from Cagare... which suits the interior nicely. Makes me think it will be unnecessary to change the silvery bits out for the darker Japanese Ts versions: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2938/...c5f65662_c.jpg The Robispec top hats look awesome if you want to roll close to the ground. I don't, so these have been replaced by the stock rear top hats. Instant bump up another 20mm at the tallest KW setting. The rear is now sitting at 345mm from centre to fender. I could drop another 10mm and still look okay. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2920/...1c3e48d0_c.jpg Actually starting to get pretty fast at this: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5592/...78864507_c.jpg Spinning collar lug nuts... to protect them gorgeous wheel: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2924/...862f6089_c.jpg |
Ride height II:
https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2940/...0d304b29_c.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5112/...fa92d76f_c.jpg Consequences of ignoring them rubbing noises... in the top right you can see the fender liner has worn through: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2903/...034714a7_c.jpg Eased up on the front camber so I can get the car to VEX to get it finished off. |
Nice build - Sub'd
