Professional Exhaust installion pricing

Hi i recently just purchased the greddy evo3 and i am planning to take it to an autobody shop for installation. Around how much would it cost so i know im not getting ripped off. Thanks!

congiiee 04-01-2014 09:07 PM

Id recommend installing it yourself. Not only do you learn about your car it's free. Heard it was easy. I was quoted $120

Craig 04-01-2014 09:40 PM

Its super easy, places are going to charge you for an hour of shop labor for a job that'll take you 2 hours tops (assuming you have 0 knowledge and have half a brain).

Honestly, I had no experience installing anything and installed mine in about an hour at night (including jacking / cutting a seized bolt off)

calmtigers 04-01-2014 09:41 PM

Legit grab some freinds and save some cash!

tahdizzle 04-01-2014 09:44 PM

It's just turning some bolts. :)

mrk1 04-01-2014 09:48 PM

Do it yourself, its not hard. For what you would pay a shop you can easily buy the tools to do it yourself.

Way to be helpful and definitely not a di ck. Since you're such a mature adult it must have been easy for you to take a step back and attempt to apply some understanding, as mature adults do.

If you've never worked on cars, never had much experience in car culture, and haven't done the research as to what's involved (that one is your fault), I can see why this seems like it would be intimidating. I do I.T. for a living and when people don't even attempt to solve a basic task on their own my first thought is to get frustrated. Then I realize where they are coming from, it's just intimidating to work on computers if it's all new to you. I've done whatever work I could do to my car in my garage by using the logic that if other idiots can figure it out (like maybe a suped up Camry driver), I certainly can.

The advice to do it yourself is great advice, otherwise a shop will charge you $80-$200 if they think they can get away with it.

Ocean-Grown 86 04-01-2014 11:45 PM

Diy man. This is a good opportunity to learn about your car. Seriously you'll be happier doing it yourself

DON"T FORGET THE SAFETY STANDS!
I am assuming op hasn't crawled under a car before. Getting under a car without safety stands is asking for trouble.

Kelbyat07 04-02-2014 12:00 AM

Oh should have mentioned that :bonk:. OP, don't use a jack without stands. A good set of 2 only costs 30 bucks. You can also use ramps

Why an autobody shop and not a regular shop? Body shops typically have higher quotes for anything.

It took about an hour to remove my stock exhaust and install my Perrin cat back, including aligning the tips perfectly (takes a couple attempts), if a shop quotes more they're out to lunch.

My local shop does $40 but if you're in there a lot like me they let stuff slide sometimes. I love my local shop.

Like others have said, I think this is a great opportunity for you to wrench on your car. Don't be too worried, exhaust is honestly one of the easiest things to do.

With the money you will spend on the install, you'll find way better returns as far as investing in a set of stands, a floor jack, and a decent set of hand tools. Grab a friend, and scoot under that car! Once you do it once, it'll be a breeze in the future, whether it's working on this car or some other - cars aren't THAT different from each other. Once you understand what's going on with one, others will feel far more familiar.

Edit: First time I worked on cars was consecutively on a FA5 and DC5. We did HEADERS on the DC5 with two crappy jackstands, and poor tools. That night we installed a full exhaust, new intake manifold, Hondata K-PRO ECU (did some work via laptop too) - finished up in the morning and went to work. (Age 16 probably)

.......and it was uphill ..... both ways ...... right ...... ;)

OP - the fellows at the local auto shop charged me $30 to install my axle back muffler.

HEY ..... lemmie alone ..... I KNOW how to do it ..... I'm just old and lazy .... :slap:
