Pics! TRD sway bars and TRD quickshifter.

I figured I would take some pictures of what is included in the kits. Made this post mainly for the sways as I couldn't find anything about them other than a blurry camera phone picture. Didn't want to set up the photo booth or spend a lot of time taking photos so full auto setting is what you get.

TRD doesn't list the front sway bar size and on the website reports a 17.5mm rear sway bar.

The TRD documents for the sway bar list 21mm front and 16mm rear. Actual measurements, not pictured, are 20.96mm Front and 16.2mm rear. (I figured the epoxy coating varies a bit)

As compared to the already discussed stock 18mm Front and 14mm rear.

If anyone wants any more or better shots of either, or if you want a PDF of the directions just let me know.

I'll post a review when I get these installed.

I wonder what the size of TRD Japan's sway bars are (yellow bars)

That I am unsure of. I have not found the sizes listed anywhere yet.

Could you give a road test review after installing the TRD sway bar?
Thanks.

If you read above I posted the sizes for the USDM sway bars. (What trd's website says, what trd's instructions say they are, and the actual measurements I took with a caliper.)

The unknown size was referencing the JDM yellow sway bars which I do not own.

Stock sway bars: 18mmF / 14mmR

TRD USDM (Reds): 21mmF / 16mmR (TRD USA website says the rear is supposed to be 17.5mm, the Install instructions list 16mm. However actual measurements were 20.96mmF / 16.2mmR)

TRD JDM (Yellows): Unknown sizes

I believe that should be front: 17 mm and Rear 15 mm.
Thanks.

:w00t:

I wonder if they're hollow or solid. I should translate that page. Thanks for the info.

I installed the sways and the car feels heavier in a straight line and can get the tail out more controllably. However I quite dislike the short shifter as it feels like I need quite a bit more effort to shift into gear. (Personal preference.)

I think that is solid, if I remember correctly.
Thanks.

Have both TRD sway bars and TRD quick shift on my 2014 Monogram.

Now it appears to be a Solid Front 17mm bar for yellow

still unknown if its hollow or solid for the 15mm rear for yellow

The red would have the most change while the yellow has a probably minute, but effective difference. Very interested in trying out both, but wouldn't the Red front bar induce more understeer? hmm

The idea is that the thicker rear sway bar will induce more oversteer, thus mitigating the added understeer. Especially as the sways come in a kit, it seems.

Advertised at 25%-35% requires much more effort to shift and it's stupid short. Feels very notchy. I had mine installed for less than a week and I went back to stock. If you wanna buy it lemme know. Lol.

If you're one for all out performance or your tracking the car, by all means yes. But for my daily I didn't like it at all. To each their own.

I have no idea what would posses someone to use this combined with another short shifter. No... Just.... No.

Car feels stiffer overall
Speedbumps suck unless you take them evenly
Car feels flat in the corner and feels much more surefooted.
Rear end is a bit harder to swing out.

IMO. Great handling improvement.

Where does it install and how hard is the installation?

Just for shits and giggles, how much would you sell it for?

I find my short shifter feels good, but the throw isn't short enough and the shifter is about three inches shorter than I'd like it to be. Something like that TRD part would allow me to lengthen the shifter and possibly shorten the throw a little along the way.

Under the car, near the driveshaft, between the bottom shifter "eye" and the lateral linkage rods. It extends the shifter stalk downwards changing te geometry therefore shortening the throw.

$135 shipped in the lower 48

How about the road quality? Will it become uncomfortable?
Thanks again.

Is this with the stock springs? Have you tried the sways with trd springs yet?

I am curious about this as well. I added sways to my GTI but they are adjustable unlike the TRD bars.

The front bar is on soft and the rear is on hard so the car rides close to stock but understeers a bit more.

It sounds like these bars tune out oversteer. But if the ride quality is jarring I'm not interested in them since I have railroad tracks and highway seams to deal with on my commute.

What does the quick shifter feel like? Gonna be picking one up hopefully before years end and I'm wondering what the throw distance feels like.

No. It will not change the ride quality. The only time it gets stiffer is if you're hitting a large pot hole or a speed bump with one wheel and not both, then you feel how much stiffer the car is.

Stock springs, have not tried with TRD springs yet. However I have heard wonderful compliments. TRD instructions vaguely mentions to install springs first.

Since both wheels encounter the same obstacle at one time you should be fine. I installed them and my girlfriend never noticed the difference. Its mainly when the suspension is, for a lack of better terms, articulating at a greater degree of angle than normal driving such as one wheel hitting a speed bump.

They do tune out some of the oversteer and make the car corner flatter but they also increase the on/off ness of the over/understeer.

Softer front bar and harder rear bar reduces understeer.

The TRD front bar goes up by 3 mm which is 14% (roughly indicative of spring rate increase) and rear bar goes up by 2 mm + a little bit which is 12%. The kit is designed to decrease oversteer in steady state and transitions.

If the end links have more than one option for connection (more than one hole in the cranked ends of the bars) then this gets a lot more complicated.

Big difference in throws! While I was waiting on my car to get finished up I was in a MT FR-S on the show room floor going thru the gears to see if it will be a diff when I get in mine. And Jesus I was pleasantly surprised. Very happy with purchase. Get it!!!!
