245 square setup... Need advice
Looking at getting a 245/40/18 tires on a 9.5 wheel. Just wondering if that is the best way to go to improve traction and handling. With the vortech kit on a 3.125 pulley I would assume the wide tires are suitable for the application. Probably going with the direzza z2 for tires and enkai raijin for wheels.

255/35/18 at least. 245 is stretched on a 9.5.
If you want traction, 255 or 265 is what you want. |
don't you already have a similar thread running? I believe CSG Mike is helping out plenty there...
|
245 is good for 9.0 or 8.5
|
So 245 front with 255 in the rear?

Even if you run 245, go 245/35R18 instead of 245/40R18.
If I were you, I would run 255/35 on 9.5 rims. |

running 255/35/18 on 18x9.5 +40 no rubbing issues. this is with -2 camber all around though from my previous setup on 17s. What is you reason for wanting 245? it seems like you really want to run it that way..

The tread width of 9.5" matches your wheel width; this is good. For handling, the rule of thumb is that the tire's tread width be +/- 1.0" of the wheel width. A wheel width greater than the tread width will generally favor handling. Wide tires on narrow wheels are to be avoided if handling is your priority. The 9.5" tread width of the ZII is more than sufficient for your power; it's not too much and it's not too little. |

I have no idea what camber you should run; use tire temperatures to guide you on that - after you use Mike's guidance on initial camber settings. |

Not sure if that messes with the tread width. |

I went with 255. Some went with 225 on 9.5! ==" |

Ok, I was just wondering if 255 was going to feel weird and try to follow the road. I'm going with a 245 plus a 5mm spacer. |
Lol no.. Id go without 5mm spacer. Also, you dont look like a pro driver. Either 245 or 255 wont make any diff for u. The only thing that bothers u is ur brain.

245/40/18's on 18x9.5, it's not exactly stretched, but it's not perfectly square, also depends on tire brand.

Did you need to add some additional negative camber in the front to eliminate any weird poke? |
My 255 Continental DWS looks like that 245, so brand matters

I do see that, a bit. I test fit my 18x9.5s on stock ride height and it looked a bit extreme in the poke region. I'm in a mental coilover debate, and trying to see if once it's lowered, that added camber is enough, or if I need to specifically add MORE camber with plates / bolts in the front. Ok, I am down to 3 wheels and i can't decide which one I like better. If you would list your opinions please.
These wheels will be on a WRB BRZ and they will be chrome when I order them 1.) Rota Torque http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...i45/side22.jpg 2.) Rota Grid http://i939.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/P1030859.jpg 3. Enkai RPF1 SBC |

I'm running 245/40-18's on 9.5. Best thing for me is that it made the digital speedo accurate finally.

Here is a 245/45 on a 17x8. I think 245 on a 9.5 isn't wide enough, but I'm always a fan of a tire meeting the edge of the wheel.

I can stick or break free depending on how I feel like driving. With a SC kit a 245 wouldn't be enough tire IMO. |
Ok I changed my mind again I'm going with a staggered setup.
What is an ideal wheel width for a 235 tire and I'm assuming a 9.5 wheel for the rear? @CSG Mike |

Sorry, I can't recommend ANY Rota wheel.

I ran a 235 f on an 8.5 and a 255 r on a 9.5, Hankook V12. Now I'm square and I'd recommend you re-think your position unless you are putting down 400whp+
To add: if I hadn' ave gone square I would have tried to put a 245 on the 8.5. The balance will be off. I ran quite a bit of front camber and it still was under-steering. I'm not a great drivier. If you are then maybe you will make up for it, but I still think you will enjoy the car immensely better with a square setup. If you are hell bent on some 235's I'm selling mine. Once you go square, you wont go back... |
