Bayson R Motorsports Bodykits (good or bad)
Anyone have any experience with the bodykits from this company? They make the GT86 style bodykit that runs around 2000 from Japan, but this one from Bayson is ABS which is rare and will run around 600 or so shipped.
|
be careful with cheap body kits. They usually need extra work at the body shop (and most body shops hate working on them) that will end up costing quite a bit. I have made this mistake before, and the final price with bondo/paint/labor/parts, it gets pretty spendy. I believe the OEM ones are pre-painted as well, which cuts down cost and headaches.
|
I hear you on that. It had caught my eye just because they were ABS which all I ever see is PU.

i like the trd kit, and i've researched just as much if not more than anybody else. the thing that keeps me away from the replicas, is that most (if not all) of their advertisement images are of cars with authentic kits! they provide no photos of their actual product mounted on a car.. yeah some of them show a couple guys holding the kit up on a bumper or trunk, but there are no detailed pictures on how the kit actually fits.
they might be cheap, but i wouldn't want to spend $400-$800 bucks on a kit that will definitely need work to fit. in the end, could have bought the real deal. |
Here's my experience with Bryson R
Attachment 63857Attachment 63858Attachment 63859 The body shop that I took it to said they were one of the easiest pieces they have ever done. And I told them I paid only around $75 for them and they were shocked at how good it fit for so cheap. I got to say though it's a 9/10 fit I was recommended to not use the double sided tape that was attached to the kit. So I used the body shops 3m tape so I have never tried their tape but it looked legit. |
Well I guess for 150 buck for the front nose piece if it doesn't look worth a crap I'm not out a lot and know not to buy the other parts. I want to remove the license plate bracket anyways and I would be nervous about doing that on a 600 dollar lip.

Hey do you have any closeup pics of the fitment on the front bumper?
|
you could try it, let me know how it goes! even though i've changed my mind on the trd kit already. :D

Whats with everyone not getting TRD
|
If anybody gets the Bayson R TRD kit, please post a review. I've been eyeballing it for a while but didn't want to pay for something that needed a lot of modification to fit. Plus, I'm still hoping somebody will erase that license plate...
|
Well I think I am going to order the front lip to see what kinda quality it is. I will also be removing the license plate bracket cause it just ruins the front end. I'm just guessing but I'm going to bet it doesn't come with the rubber edging like the TRD kit has right?

Guess that's why TRD is 2000. :-)

Jon, you really gotta try searching man.
Here's my review thread. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43566 Bayson R is located a couple miles from me. |
There is a difference between a piece that sits underneath a bumper, which only needs to line up straight and bolt on. a trd style kit needs to cover and fit the bumper like a glove.
|
Thank you for the link but is Indesign said there is a HUGE difference between lip kits like that and full skirts and lips that extend up the sides and have to have a precision line where it meets the body. I'm glad you had a good experience with them as far as customer service and them wanting to make things right. Says a lot about a company.

I really like the TRD style lip that fits like a glove but that lip doesn't fit on my BRZ. I am still hoping I can find a TRD style lip that does.

I have not ordered it quite yet. I hopefully will very soon.

I purchased the TRD style kit from bayson R and had it installed by my dad and painted from a family friend. I did not buy the TRD rear because i didn't want to shave but he gave me a deal to have the rear spats instead for total of 350 for entire kit. The side skirts and rear spats fit very well. All the parts came with weather strip (the rubber edging) along with all screws/bolts. Friends were impressed with how well and easy it was to install.
CONS: the only problem i had was the front lip, it was a tight fit and it didn't fit flush, some parts did not line up very well either(specifically the fog lights area). Licence plate holes were not drilled correctly and had to do some extra work to really get the license plate frame to fit along car. overall was very satisfied with quality and how it looked in the end. http://i.imgur.com/lRdkb9Q.jpg |
Anyone seen or have any pics of the TRD kit painted anything other then white and now the red that WillyDee has posted. Willy that kit looks sick in red. Very good choice for the car.

I've had no issues with my STi replica sides and lip kit from Bayson R. Install was easy and fitment was pretty darn good.

http://i.imgur.com/Pyt75gp.jpg as you can see it doesn't really cover nicely but its pretty unnoticeable. Also the edge overlaps the fog light area a little and doesn't really fit nicely. http://i.imgur.com/2eaQrMl.jpg another spot where it doesn't really cover again very unnoticeable http://i.imgur.com/f09XZkB.jpg |
Sorry to ask so many questions but this is seeming like a pretty substitute for the TRD kit. Do you think it would be possible to maybe heat up the abs and tweak it a little to possibly line up a little better? Really it doesn't look TOO bad. My main concern would be the overlap on the fog light. Im am planning on removing the license plate so the holes really wouldn't be that big of a deal.
|
Well I just ordered the front bumper!!!! I have to say I'm kinda a perfectionist and am not going to put this on unless I am TOTALLY satisfied with the part. I will post pics and install photos as soon as it gets here and am able to test fit it to my car.
|
Curious to see your test fit, I've been eyeballing these too.
Anyone that wants to post photos of the BRZ STI side skirts? I'm very curious to see photos from underneath for the mounting points. |

I look at it this way.....factory body kits are ABS. Poly doesn't seem to have as crispy edges as ABS does

Well I LITERALLY just got the front lip in an unpackaged it. First thing I have to say is the packaging is very well done. It didn't come in a box but was basically wrapped in a bubble wrap, heavy duty cardboard armor and a whole lot of box tape. If it was going to get broken it would have to get run over by a truck. Also had "fragile" box tape around it to. Not that that usually helps but it was still there. So after i got it out of its armor shipping cage it looked very good as far as quality. The finish is very smooth and crisp. The edges are a tiny bit ruff and i do mean tiny bit. I will most likely take a bit of 300 grit sand paper to them when I test fit it. The ABS is quality thickness. Probably about 1/8 inch. There is 4 metal brackets on the underneath of the lip to attach it to the car which are riveted to the bumper and not screwed which shows more effort to me in quality.
It comes with the rubber edging where the lips fits up tight to the bumper of the car with is AWESOME. Leaves a very nice edge, also a very nice addition. Then a few bolt for the license plate and a few screws for where it wraps around the inner wheel wells. It does not come with double sided tape so that will have to be added but not a big deal to me. There was 1 small gouge in the front about 1/2 inch long but easily fixed before paint. I can not speak for the fitment to the car just yet because my car is under a cover in my driveway with 6 inches of snow on it right now but as far as fist impressions and over all quality i am completely satisfied. This bumper should is very good for the price and its defiantly not going to get that sag that occurs with poly kits. |
