Ottawa BRZ & FR-S

This thread is for Ottawa BRZ and FRS owners to talk about our cars.

Starscream15 05-02-2012 05:16 PM

Grats!

Enemies 05-02-2012 05:37 PM

Grats. My birthday is in the first half of June so I've got like no chance to get my BRZ for it. :P That'd be so awesome if you got your FR-S on your birthday. :)

styl3z 05-02-2012 05:38 PM

Wow. My birthday is May 29!
Hopefully I'll get my car for my birthday :D

My pessimism was based on the assumption that Canadian pricing would be unfair. That is the norm in this industry. I'm actually very impressed with Scion and Subaru for charging a reasonable 7% markup over the US pricing and I hope other manufacturers take note. For too long Canadians have been completely taken advantage of. The 370z, Mustang GT and the Impreza WRX all command 30% or higher markup which is totally ridiculous and pisses me off.

i am also really impressed with the aggressive pricing for the scion. this will be a little nice car to drive.

exactly... considering the 6% tax on all canadian imports... its quite amazing.

Nice! My salesman at Mendes Scion just sent me an email about an FR-S arriving for viewing & test drive but he wasn't sure of the date or time. Wonder if it's the same car being passed around by Scion Canada to the various Ottawa dealerships, or a separate demo unit being delivered to each place?

The sales manager also gave a rough estimate of June 1st for delivery of my car (assuming we come to a mutual agreement on price!) :D

Hope your b'day is an exceptional one this year!

I had to send Mendes an email this morning letting them know that the car is supposed to be in Ottawa May 10 at Belair Toyota and that since I have had my deposit down since March 5, 2012 I thought maybe they could arrange a test drive day for those of us dealing with Mendes. I got a generic response that they had received my email. Well at noon I called and asked what was going on? Said they should know more on Monday. Kind of shows you who the higher rated Scion delaerships are in Ottawa. Anyway he did suggest that I will have my Raven FRS by the end of May, early June. At this point I really don't need to test drive it, just need to see the room for my 9 year old son in the back seat. I will be at Tony Grahams on Wednesday night for my first glimpse at my next vehicle. Can't freakin wait.

With a deposit made back in March, you must be #1 on the list! Yeah, they seem to be the odd one out in the Ottawa area, but hey, maybe that means they'll work harder on the deal. :D And all the doom & gloom surrounding the Public Service cuts may mean that business is slower for them.

Unfortunately I've got other plans on Wens so I can't go to the Tony Graham event, but just like you I can't wait to see the car for real. I'm not 100% sold on it. The reviews are great so far but the styling details leave me a little cold. The basic form is terrific, especially in profile, but the details are a little untidy. We'll see.

If I manage to get a firm date & time for the Mendes demo, I'll post it here.

lxsedan 05-05-2012 12:44 AM

lady told me about the Wednesday showing but didn't mention a time for Tony Graham, do you guys know what time the car will be there? She said 2 hours.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it was from 7 to 9, but it would probably be better to check with the dealership.

Slick 05-05-2012 11:26 AM

I'll be at Bel-Air on Thursday afternoon as well. My car is ordered so I should be able to test drive it too.

It is the same car visiting each dealer otherwise there would not be specific dates and times. This is the Scion Regional Reps car.

YinYang1980 05-07-2012 10:25 AM

i will be at ottawa tonight, ill go visit belair to see if there is any fr-s to see and maybe test drive.

Just got a call from Mendes in Ottawa. They will have a car on site Thursday May 10 at 9 am. The test drives are from 9 am until 10 am. (I am reserved for 9 am) I want to get in first just in case the guy from Calgary shows up to write another FRS off. At 10 am the car will be in the showroom for public viewing. he did not mention how long it was going to be on display for.

Klinn 05-07-2012 02:01 PM

Yah beat me to it! :)

I was told the car would be leaving at noon, so 10 - 12 is the viewing window. Hope I can get out of work!

Also hope that the weather holds, showing as "Isolated Showers" at the moment.

Slick 05-07-2012 08:31 PM

Obviously this is the same car making the rounds in Ottawa.

So...
Tony Graham Wed night, Mendes Thu morning 9-12 and BelAir Thu afternoon 2-5pm.

Waiting to hear from BelAir if the car is still there after 5pm or not. But looking at the postings from others, it may only be at each dealer for 3 hours or so.

I've ordered mine so hopefully enough time to test drive it. 3 hours isn't much time for multiple test drives and showroom viewing.

YinYang1980 05-07-2012 11:28 PM

just come back from belair, the old guy told me the frs will be there thursday from 1 to 4 pm and will be gone after that, no driving, just sitting and touching, at least for poeple that did not make any deposit.

Want.FR-S 05-09-2012 09:55 PM

Just back from tony graham to see the whiteout fr-s. this is the same car shown in Toronto a while ago. About 30 people or so there. Pretty small car.

zootramp 05-09-2012 10:06 PM

I also just came back from Tony Graham and I was thrilled to finally see and ride in the car,

It is beautiful. I love how small it is.

It was a manual and I only drive auto so I could only ride. The first chance to drive an auto will likely be when my car comes in at the end of the month.

Love It! Love It! Love It!

And I also got my VIN

KingGeo 05-09-2012 10:14 PM

I also so just got back from Tony Graham.
i was not sure before if i would LOVE the car or just LIKE the car....
after driving it, OMG i LOVE this car.
my biggest concern was leg room for the driver, not a problem at all :)

i was one of a few who did not pre order who got to drive it, had to hang out till 845pm to do it but was totally worth it!

fantastic

Slick 05-09-2012 10:22 PM

Good stuff. Glad to hear it is the manual that is visiting Ottawa. I'll be at Bel-Air tomorrow.

Any idea how many people were able to test drive it tonight?

You will love the auto transmission with sporty shift speed (2ms) with rev-bliping for down-shift. Even Moto san from club4ag wants the auto. He is the hard-core AE86 lover so the auto is that good.

In terms of how many are trying: I would say about 6 to 7, although I was late a bit so there were quite a few. I heard someone say Tony Graham got 9 pre-orders and they have 13-15 cars coming on the first lot. They seems to think that they will get more for the next shipment in near future so there is no shortage on the Scion side.

lxsedan 05-10-2012 03:29 AM

Hey I musta saw a few of you guys there tonight then, may have even talked to a few of you without knowing as I talked to a bunch of people as we were standing around waiting to sit in the car and stuff. I was there tonight to see the car, was very curious what I would think after seeing it in person.

After getting in the front seat with someone sitting in the back it was roomier then I thought it would be, he was 5'10" and I was still able to adjust seat and sit comfortably in the passenger seat, i'm about 5'8"

Was there with my gf and we really liked it in person as much as I thought we would.

Took the car for a test drive this morning at Mendes Ottawa. 4 people to test drive while I was there. Nice to have met fellow enthusiasts both last night and today. In a word "SOLD". Still smiling 2 hours after the drive. Was also told by manager that my car will be delivered May 24, 2012. Very pleased!

Just took a quick look and it was the Bespoke unit ($850 upgrade I think). With that you can plug in your smart phone and display the GPS info from your phone to the unit. Kind of handy to use.

As long as your smartphone is an iPhone. Doesn't work with anything else yet and you have to use the specific BeSpoke app not the NAV on your phone.

I was not interested in that upgrade so did not spend time to research the info. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, you could be right. TBH I was not really checking the HU since not interested. Just saw the big screen and thought that could be the Bespoke unit.

So this is the upgraded HU with no iPhone integration.

Yeah, it was good to meet some of you folks last night at T.G. and today at Mendes.

I must confess I went for the upgraded stereo simply for appearance, not any possible difference in sound. Weird, I know. The base unit just looks a little chintzy in my opinion.

I just ordered my nice sticky tires (Kumho XS) from 1010Tire out in Vancouver and they should arrive about the same time as the car. Hopefully everything will come together in time for MCO's first Solo2 event on June 3rd.

pastuch 05-10-2012 05:49 PM

Just saw Slick at the FR-S test drive. He had his racing helmet on with over an inch an a half of clearance which I found amazing. Slick how tall are you?

Impressions: The CAR IS PERFECT! I love everything about it. To say it looks beautiful in white is an understatement. I may have to change my order from Black to White. I bet the Red and Dark Blue are breathtaking too.

I didn't bring my helmet for a test fit, just did the "how many fingers can I fit above my head" test. When I'm sitting upright as if traveling straight ahead, there was ample clearance. But when taking a lefthand corner, you tend to tilt your head over towards the door and that will bring it in close proximity to a section of the roof which is lower. I suspect there may be a bit interference there, but it looked better than my current summer toy.

I'm only 5'-7" and change but I tend to race with the seatback quite upright to get the best possible sight lines.

Slick 05-10-2012 06:03 PM

5'-11".

I was equally impressed with the car (so was Andrew the sales manager). Having coming from 2 Miatas and an RX-8, it does not disappoint. (also had an original AE86 back in the day)
My Genesis Coupe felt huge and drove like a boat afterwards in comparison.

Now the real wait begins....

Did all you guys have pre orders on it with dates coming up soon? I went with a pre on brz but no announcements on dates or any of the likes yet

bizaka 05-11-2012 02:02 AM

Just wondering what you guys have paid for this car with your options etc. Total price/ financing options. I just heard about this car and have been doing some research and im pretty much in love. Only 1 thing is that I am 6'2''/6'3''. From your experiences today with the test drives do you think it would be a little to congested for me? I must say i do like my legroom lol

Slick 05-11-2012 10:06 AM

My best description of how the car felt when I drove it can be summed up this way: It is the 4 seat Miata we all have wanted, but better.

It really does everything a sports car should do, quite well. The gearbox is the same as the Miata and RX-8, but feels better. The suspension is firmer and planted, with less roll than a Miata, but the ride is not harsh or jarring. The low centre of gravity really makes this car feel stable and communicates everything back to you. Steering is great and precise. The engine has a good amount of power and nice torque. I dropped it into a higher gear (3rd I think) and at 1500 it was able to pull up into the normal range without lugging.

The RX-8 has a superb chassis and was easily the best handling car I have driven to date. From my 10 min test drive, I think we have a new winner.
