Helix side markers water entry
Seems to be a few folks mentioning that these let in water. I got a set of these a week ago to install. Haven't yet. I am planning to use a silicon based adhesive seal when I do. Here's some questions to those who have had these installed and had issues (or not for that matter).
Any ideas on how the water is entering the enclosure? I would assume that it is along the lights mount, as the sides appear well sealed on my new ones. I was planning on sealing the entire back edge and the light mount itself, and possibly looking for a rubber gasket ring if one will fit without obstruction. Anyone who has done this is there room for that at all? Thanks. :thanks: |
Had a couple of really raining days the past few days and yes there is now water inside them side markers. The worst part is the upper right corner, the corner closest to the wheels. The corner is now filled with wet dirt and looks quite unsightly. I don't know if there is enough space to seal it. Its quite a tight fit, so much so that it nick the painted on my passenger side when i was installing it.

SO I picked up some Momentive RTV108 that I'll be applying to the seals all the way around the side markers, and letting cure for 2 days. I live in Atlanta, where it rains.. a lot. so I think I'll know before to long whether it was effective in handling the water entry issues.
Still looking for anyone else's feedback if anyone has anything to share? thanks |

update:
swapping smoked for clear: its rained a snowed a few times, no water entry at all, just some dirt of the back of the adhesive sealer |
That looks like the route I'll be going, my left one is full of moisture, I'm sure a little sealant would make it a quick fix, surely there's no moisture getting in from the back

I'm very interested to hear about how it works out from someone who's actually had the issue. I preempted the issue, and therefore am not a solid example.. as on an off chance mine may never have had the issue in the first place. |

It's easier to not be cheap and just buy the OEM ones. They come water sealed from the factory.

I would have opted for the OEM clears if i didn't want smoked ones! Haha

I've had the helix side markers installed for several months now. I personally haven't experienced any problems with them letting in water. Not to mention the past few months have been winter (damp).
|
Damp is not the problem. Water get into everytime when it rains (not mist) talking about reAl rainfall. Happeneds a lot in vancouver so my side market constantly has condensation or is a fish bowl
|
I too have to been cursed by the helix side markers. I've had for a little over a month now didn't have any issues until this past weekend when it rained really hard. Now my drivers side maker is literally halfway full of water. :(
